Yellow, Brown, Black and Beautiful: Iyengar Yoga for People of Color

May 2, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Gazing at our “yoga bible,” Light on Yoga, we study in great detail the iconic poses of Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar. Yet in 21st century America, the yoga images surrounding us are overwhelmingly of white, thin, wealthy young females. Let us uplift the inherent perfection of our own yellow, brown, and black bodies and throw off cultural and internalized critiques, while embracing the challenge of Iyengar Yoga. Let us bravely explore the contradiction Guruji offers us, of making our bodies fit the asana AND making the asana fit our bodies. Together we will create a safer space to affirm, nurture, and inspire each other to keep growing.

This will be a multi-level class.  Beginners and those new to Iyengar Yoga are welcome.

Tuition:
$15-$40, sliding scale

Pre-registration is $30.  You are welcome to register at the studio on the day of and pay a sliding scale amount that works for you.
