Let it go! Releasing Neck and Shoulder Pain
with Kirra Swenerton
Saturday Dec 5th 2- 4 pm
Join us at the studio in Berkeley
At times, the weight of the world can almost feel unbearable. During the darker months, carrying this weight can sometimes be even heavier. Over time, this can manifest as tension in the neck and shoulders. The regular practice of yoga helps us to release accumulated tensions and find relief from pain, not only on the physical level.
In this workshop we will learn ways to free the neck and shoulders and open the heart. We will explore spaciousness and movement in the chest, as well as the armpits, neck and throat, wrists and hands. Because this program is in person, we can all use wall ropes and other Iyengar Yoga props for traction and support. This will help you experience greater length through the neck and upper spine – and build the strength and awareness to support healthier movement.
You’ll learn practical ways to:
- work with breath and the support of props to rest the areas that carry tension
- release tightness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back
- improve mobility and awareness in the shoulder joints
- strengthen the muscles that help support healthy shoulders
- use the ropes and props to create space and ease
- recognize habits of contraction and compression before they become bigger problems
