Tapas of Compassion with Gwi-Seok Hong

March 29 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Saturday, March 29  from 1 – 5 pm in person

A special workshop with Gwi-Seok Hong

encorporating asana, pranayana and yoga philosophy

in-person and online

Tapas of Compassion: Asana and pranayamas as paths to right action, with both tapas (vigor), and karuna (compassion)

Yoga helps us to be more fully present in all aspects of our lives. As we become more aware of ourselves, we also become more sensitized to those around us, human and more than human, local and global.

How do we keep caring when oppression, genocide, and catastrophe are ongoing, escalating, and relentless? How do we keep the inner fire of tapas stoked, without burnout? What is the relationship between karuna and tapas?

We will explore āsana both physically and physiologically, considering the nervous system, immune system, and endocrine system, through all categories of poses, including inversions, arm balances, and backbends.

1-3:30pm Asana
3:45-5pm Pranayama

May yoga be a practice that guides us always and courageously toward right action, with both the vigor of tapas, and the softess of karuna.

Who is this program for? Iyengar Yoga practitioners with at least 1 year of study, especially interested in practical application of yoga philosophy.

In-Person at Adeline Yoga: This workshop will be held in-person at our studio in Berkeley.  You may also register for the zoom option.  All participants will receive the recording.
