Low Back Healing: Featuring the Double Buckled Belt
with Kelly Sobanski
Saturday October 1st from 2 – 4:30 pm PST via Zoom
This healing sequence is inspired by the weekly Low Back Class at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India. Kelly spent time observing the class over many months – and has been practicing this sequence for many years. This sequence is one of her favorites because her sacrum and spine always feel so fantastic after the practice. It’s worth repeating over a lifetime to tune-in and tune-up.
This is an excellent workshop that helps relieve pain in the sacrum and low back through traction and space created by the double-buckle belts. Those who tend to have unevenness in the sacral area can benefit because the belts stabilize the hips as we move from pose to pose. Relief from sacral and low back pain can be felt due to the stability and space created from this healing sequence.
You will learn:
- How to use double-buckle belts to create traction/length in the spine & stability in the sacrum
- Poses that relieve pain in the low back, sacrum and hips
- How to use the wall to create stability in standing poses
- Instructions that help create space in the hips, spine, shoulders and neck
This course is designed for those with at least 2 years of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice and are comfortable with inversions. Modifications can be given if anyone is menstruating during the workshop or one can take notes and then practice the asana via the recording. Teachers and teachers-in-training who want to learn to better help their students are most welcome.
This workshop is not for students who have complex spine, sacrum or hip conditions. These conditions can be better addressed with private yoga sessions. If you have questions about whether this program is for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org before registering.
For this workshop you will need the following props:
- 1 double-buckle belt
- 1 long belt (12 foot is ideal)
- The regular Iyengar Yoga props including: a regular belt, blankets, bolster, a chair, blocks and wall space
Yes! You will need a double-buckle belt. Regular belts cannot be hooked together easily for this sequence. You can purchase yours from Adeline Yoga (pick up in Berkeley). If you are not local, email us email@example.com we will try and coordinate shipping. Please make this arrangement early so you get your belt in time.
We plan that this zoom workshop will be recorded. Every registrant will receive access to the recording for one month. If you cannot attend the workshop live, you can pre-register and receive the recording.
$55 per person
We do expect that this workshop will sell out, so register early. One hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions.
