You’ve heard your teacher mention parts of your body a million times: your shoulder blades, your quadriceps, your metatarsals, your triceps. But, can you really truly feel these bones and muscles and how they interact to perform motions and actions in the yoga asana? This workshop will help you to experience your body and the yoga asana in a whole new way and understand the importance of alignment through the muscular-skeletal system.
Anatomy of Yoga: Joints & Planes of Movement
Learn anatomy terminology and review all the major joints and joint movements of the body as they relate to yoga asana.
This workshop is the first in a 3-part series teaching applied, experiential anatomy in the context of our yoga practice.
These workshops are appropriate for the eager student, aspiring yoga teachers and current yoga professionals. you will get the most out of the program by attending all sessions but drop- ins are allowed.

Anatomy of Yoga: The Arms & Legs
In this workshop we will focus on the joints and movements of the joints of the arms and legs in more detail. We will investigate the lower extremities – hips, knees, ankles and feet, and the upper extremities – shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands. We will also review common problems encountered in these areas while doing yoga asana, and learn anatomically-friendly modifications.

Anatomy of Yoga: The Pelvis & Spine
In many ways, the pelvic and the spine are at the root of the yoga asana practice. In this workshop we will explore and examine the joints, muscle and movements of the hips and spine from the lower back to the neck and learn anatomically-friendly modifications to address common issues.
Audrey Tan is physical therapist and certified Iyengar yoga teacher. She is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco’s teacher training program, a Yoga Alliance registered teacher at the E-RYT500-hour level, and a certified Yoga for Scoliosis teacher. She has apprenticed with Elise Miller, a certified senior Iyengar teacher and back care specialist and studied in India with the Iyengar family. True to the teachings of Iyengar Yoga, Audrey emphasizes safe alignment of the body and excels in modifying poses to make them accessible to all levels of students. Audrey owns Fig Garden Yoga Studio in Fresno, California. She teaches general classes, Back Care classes, semi-private therapeutic classes for people who need specialized attention, and private classes for students wanting to utilize yoga to improve athletic performance, scoliosis, and a variety of other conditions. Audrey has a doctorate in physical therapy from Cal State Fresno.
