Adeline Yoga is honored to welcome our teacher of teachers!
One of the many things we love about Iyengar Yoga is how specific it it. Your practice is adjusted according to the time of day, to your age, your fitness level and also to the season. In the winter time we tend to spend more time indoors. That state is less active and can create some sluggishness in the digestive system. As we prepare for spring and the more active lifestyle, let’s spend an afternoon performing twisting asanas. These asanas are known for their detoxifying effect, stimulating the digestive system so you will be able to leap into spring lightly.

Janet MacLeod began studying yoga in London during the late 1970’s and continues to study with the Iyengar family both in the West and in India. She has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) since 1983.
She teaches ongoing classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco (IYISF) and is also an assessor for the National Certification Committee. This provides her with a deep understanding of Iyengar Yoga.
Born on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, Janet has travelled to many parts of the world offering workshops and retreats. She has also taught at the Yoga Journal conference in San Francisco.
Before devoting herself to teaching exclusively, Janet was the Program Director at IYISF. In 2001 she co-chaired the National Iyengar Yoga Conference in Pasadena where 850 students studied under Geeta S. Iyengar (BKS Iyengar’s daughter).
Her style of teaching is faithful to the ancient tradition of yoga, but is infused with love and light. Janet believes in sharing the joy that she has found in yoga with all who come in contact with her. This along with the technical skills she has accumulated over many years of personal practice, study and teaching make her a much sought after teacher wherever she goes.
Adeline Yoga is committed to supporting diversity in our yoga community and social justice. The Yoga Blessings Fund is a scholarship program that encourages participation in Iyengar Yoga at Adeline Yoga. The Fund offers partial and full scholarships for nearly any class or workshop. It primarily focuses on deep studies programs such as Yoga for Life and teacher training opportunities including Sadhana Studies.
We established this fund in 2012 for several reasons:
Scholarships in the Yoga Blessing Fund are not based solely on need. We are committed to broadening access to yoga by encouraging practitioners who come from backgrounds that are not well represented in most yoga studios, or who come from communities that might be less familiar with the benefits of a yoga practice. These scholarships are an invitation to participate. Students of color, those living with disabilities or who identify as LGBTQ are especially encouraged to inquire about this opportunity.
The Yoga Blessings Fund is one part of a comprehensive approach to accessibility and community engagement. For example, we have 3 sliding-scale community classes every week, social justice programming including a teachers group and speaker series, and an active workstudy program.
Our Yoga Blessings fund is the scholarship arm of our social justice initiatives.
It is administered according to:
