This 8-session series is specially designed for beginners. You will learn the foundations of Iyengar yoga to help you build strength and flexibility and relieve stress. Designed for total beginners and students who want a better understanding of the foundational poses of Iyengar yoga. All body types and abilities are welcome.
Each 75-minute session will build upon the prior class in a progressive manner. You will get the most out of the classes if you attend them all. Upon completion of the series, you will be prepared to enter Level I classes.

Drop-ins are allowed to this class. Students may also use any regular class pass to attend.
Leah Flaks is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and has taught public and private yoga classes since 1997. Leah started practicing Iyengar yoga to recover from a dance back injury – and just kept practicing. Be sure to ask her about meeting BKS Iyengar in Berkeley’s Tilden Park in the 1980s. If you are lucky, she will show you the picture of her demonstrating trikonasana with BKS Iyengar himself.
Leah shares the benefits of Iyengar yoga in a welcoming space where people can relax and just be themselves. She loves that with Iyengar yoga it doesn’t matter your age, body type, abilities, et cetera. She encourages each student who walks through the door meet their goals.
Leah graduated from Adeline Yoga’s 500-hour advanced Teacher Training Program. She continues her study of asana, pranayama, chanting and yoga sutras under the guidance of Carolyn Belko, Michael Lucey, Gitte Bechsgaard, and Heather Haxo Phillips. Visit her webpage at https://leahgreenbergyoga.com.
Francesca Nicosia is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. She took her first Iyengar Yoga class in 2010 and is a graduate of Adeline Yoga’s two-year Sadhana Studies program. She has been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2005 after completing a teacher-training program while living at Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in Colorado. She has a PhD in Medical Anthropology and is a researcher in the Division of Geriatrics at UCSF and the San Francisco VA Medical Center. As a member of the IYNAUS Research Committee, she volunteers her time to promote the benefits of Iyengar Yoga within integrative approaches to medicine and health care. Also an accomplished musician, Francesca is a soulful singer and kirtan leader who loves sharing the joyful practice of devotional chanting. She continues her studies of yoga philosophy, Sanskrit and mantra with Dr. Gitte Beschgaard and regularly assists her mentors, Heather Haxo Phillips and Cynthia Bates.
