Exploring Balance with Ramona

Saturday, August 1st
from 2 – 4:30 pm
with Ramona Atanacio
In his book Light on Life, B.K.S. Iyengar writes “Balance in the body is the foundation for balance in life.” Asana practice has shown us that stability requires balance, and that it begins from learning to stand properly on one’s feet. With this stability, one can extend and stand tall.
Inevitably, change or challenge comes and then something shifts. The balance can begin to feel out of balance. How does one adjust?
In this workshop we will explore ways to support and challenge stability and balance, and evenness of extension. We will do so through various categories of asana including standing, seated, lateral rotation, abdominals, jumpings, inversions, and restorative. This workshop will incorporate holding postures to build intelligence and sensitivity, active movement and core strengthening, as well as time for rest. Students should be prepared to find that balance is not just in the feet and legs but throughout the body, and in the mind.
This fun afternoon workshop aims to further our understanding of balance in asana, and how it can translate to balance in life.
Who is this program for? It is best for students who have some yoga experience, who regularly attend foundations or continuing beginner classes.
It is in-person at our Berkeley studio.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Ramona Atanacio (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. She first began a daily practice in law school to support her busy and active lifestyle. Ramona’s love for the practice grew as she learned that the study of yoga, and the discovery of the mind and body, was limitless. This led her to deepen her study of yoga through an initial teacher training program and Ashtanga yoga, which eventually led to Iyengar Yoga. She has found Iyengar Yoga to bring a much greater awareness and focus to her practice and life.
Ramona likes to teach an Iyengar Yoga class that is approachable, invigorating, and fun, while also blending therapeutic and restorative elements of yoga. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking Indian food in an Instant Pot and learning new dance moves.
