with Michael Lucey
Often we think the purpose of props is to make asanas more accessible. Props help us when we are faced with limitations or restrictions or injuries. That is very true. But props do other kinds of things as well. For instance, they can help with sensitivity, awareness, and intelligence.
Prashant Iyengar has often said that when we are practicing, one of our goals should be to “evolve the sensitivity culture.” In this workshop, we will use mats, blankets, belts, blocks and other props with an aim to exploring what sensitivity is, how it can be enhanced, how it can evolve, and how our practice will change as a result. Expect to encounter lots of different kinds of poses and lots of ways of using props so that the quality of our asana practice is transformed.
This workshop is appropriate for students with at least two years consistent practice of Iyengar Yoga and experience practicing inversions.
The workshop will be held in person at Adeline Yoga Studio in Berkeley, CA. OR signup to stream the workshop live. All participants will receive the recording.
