Welcome to our Community Reading Room

Adeline Yoga is moving into a beautiful new location next door at 3310 Adeline St. I’ve had my eyes set on this spot for nearly a decade!  It’s coming to fruition in a time that I believe is most needed!

One of my many visions for our Iyengar Yoga center is having a dedicated library for the books written by BKS Iyengar and his family. BKS Iyengar was a prolific writer, and so is his son Prashant. Quite a few senior Iyengar Yoga teachers have further elucidated what has been taught in Pune, offering books of their own. We want all these volumes in one place so that we can learn more deeply.

Indeed, there are many critically important texts that feed into the practices that are part of Iyengar Yoga – starting with the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Puranas and so much more.  Then, there are texts written by modern commentators that draw upon this ancient wisdom and explain it for contemporary audiences. And, there are sister sciences including Ayurveda, Jyotish, and Sanskrit that we would like to delve into. There is so much for each of us to learn, and we can start that process if we have access to the books.

We currently have a small offering of books that the teachers use for reference material.  It has been a dream to create a space where all our students and teachers can come together to meet one another and fully delve into the life-changing books that have been published.

Our initial goal for our Community Reading Room is to offer a specially curated collection that can serve as an extension of your yoga practice, and provide a space to support the beloved and beautiful community of Iyengar Yoga practitioners.

Our vision for the Reading Room:

Extension of Community Space
The Reading Room is seen as a natural expansion of Adeline Yoga’s role as a community hub—offering a cozy, welcoming place to gather, reflect, and learn together.

Curated Resources for All Students
A thoughtfully selected collection of yoga books and materials will offer inspiration and guidance for both newcomers and long-time practitioners.

Access to Teacher-Recommended Materials
Students have described having access to books recommended by Adeline’s teachers as crucial to deepening practice and understanding the teachings happening in class.

Opportunities for Discussion and Reflection
The space will encourage organic conversations—students bringing questions from readings to teachers and peers, fostering deeper connection and learning.

Commitment to Mindful, In-Person Connection
In contrast to digital overload and AI trends, this room supports slow learning, quiet contemplation, and human interaction.

A Distinctive Offering
Unlike other studios that may emphasize retail, Adeline’s Reading Room highlights shared learning, quiet, and spiritual exploration—setting it apart in the yoga community.

Cozy and Life-Changing
Envisioned as a soft, inviting place to be surrounded by “life-changing books,” meet like-minded students, and nourish one’s inner journey.

Who is involved?

We’re thrilled that Shakti Fleisher and Saghar Boukani will be volunteering as our first librarians. They have academic and practical experience in library sciences, and a beautiful vision for the space. As Saghar puts it:

“Beyond having the resources available, I’ve always found immense value in bringing questions from the books and booklets to teachers and fellow students. These honest and in-person chats help us go deeper into the concepts and strengthen both our individual practices and our community connections.”
