In this workshop, we will practice the post-menstrual sequence from Lois Steinberg’s book “Geeta S. Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Practice.” The effects of this amazing sequence are like going to the spa; ultimate refreshment. It offers benefits to all the internal organs and has calming effects that all of us need. You will learn practice techniques to help uplift yourself and balance any feelings of heaviness and depletion.
This is a perfect practice for all genders, regardless of whether you menstruate, as it helps balance hormones and stress levels. It encourages organic heath for the reproductive organs, digestive system and our nerves. For example, its a go-to sequence for digestive issues including constipation. Even the resilience of the lungs are improved when you practice this sequence. Its a great sequence to learn so you can use it if you have a cough or sore throat (remember, fire season is coming)
Perhaps best of all this sequence is extremely helpful to release stress build-up and tension. It is quieting for the soul and healing for the spirit. BKS Iyengar taught that when the head is lower than the heart, the mind surrenders.
Ok yes you can tell that we REALLY love this sequence. Kelly has studied by Lois’s side for over 10 years, and she feels honored to share details and benefits that she has learned. Truly, it is one of the most cherished sequences and worth repeating over a lifetime.
You will learn:
This course is designed for those with at least 2 years of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice and are comfortable with inversions. Modifications can be given if anyone is menstruating during the workshop or one can take notes and then practice the asana via the recording. Teachers and teachers-in-training who want to learn to better help their students are most welcome.
This workshop is not for students who have complex uterine health issues or who have conditions where inversions are contra-indicated. These conditions can be better addressed with private yoga sessions. If you have high or low blood pressure, please email us before the workshop. If you have questions about whether this program is for you, please email info@adelineyoga.com before registering.
This will be a workshop that uses props typical in an Iyengar Yoga class. Please have 1 belt, 3 blankets, 1 bolster, 1 backless yoga chair, 2 blocks & a cleared off wall space. This workshop involves a rope wall. Kelly will offer modifications if you do not have a rope wall.
A copy of Lois Steinberg book’ Geeta S. Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Yoga Practice: Volume I is recommended. You can purchase yours from Adeline Yoga (pick up in Oakland) or through Lois (she ships). Just order ahead so you have enough time to pick up at our contactless location in Oakland or have it shipped.
