For the Love of Intermediate Stages with Kelly Marie Sobanski

May 18 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

For the Love of Intermediate States

with Kelly Marie Sobanski

Saturday May 18 from 2 – 4:30 pm PST via Zoom

This workshop will give us a chance to practice the intermediate stages of poses with a sense of rejuvenation through movement, awareness and stability. Intermediate stages are the in-betweens of a pose, the break-downs and the stop-and-pause moments that give us clarity about a pose.  Truely, they give us an opportunity to take our time in this fast paced world. Clarity about a pose leads to the ability to know when to propel forward and when to stay still.  These stages give us an opportunity to practice non-harming in our practice while still making progress.

Let’s practice not doing final poses and enjoying it! We will take time to stop and feel, and propel ourselves forward at a precise speed so that we can take in life’s perennial moments. Paksha can be translated as going with the flow.  We can go with the flow in intermediate stages and create safe spaces to come back to over and over again.

Let’s shift our yoga practice into a confident place, so that we can recognize when we are ready to move into challenges with self assurance, trust and courage. Then, we might just surprise ourselves when we naturally catch a pose!

Movement is an important part of intermediate stages, which can hearten us to let go and to experience freedom. Let’s have fun by taking the pressure off doing things at a peak level. Staying put can sometimes feel like a challenge, yet the intermediate stages can be refreshing places to start over again or to stay engaged.

Part of this workshop includes a slide-show that reveals intermediate stages as expressions of natural grace, innocence and creativity.

From this workshop experience, let’s be inspired by stages in our lives that encourage us to be absorbed, to pause, to adventure, and to feel better about ourselves even when we can’t do it all. We will have fun practicing together!

You will learn:

* Utthita’s (Upright positions), angles, shapes, and extensions that encourage space, strength, stability, and movement.

* Intermediate stages of poses from books such as Light on Yoga, Preliminary & Intermediate Course, Yoga Shastra’s and others.

* To be inspired by intermediate stages as natural states of expression such as when children, beginners, dancers, and teachers are in these graceful moments.

* To feel the effects on one side of your body compared to the other side, and to learn when to proceed or when to stay. This develops an awareness of self-trust and non-harming actions.

* To catch yourself if you are moving to fast and to remember to step back and observe before doing more and more.

* To play with movement for brain games, fun, challenges and upliftment.

* How to work with Viloma pranayama to relax the mind and body into pauses, stillness, patience and acceptance.
