Healthy bones help you move through the world with strength and confidence. BUT if bones aren’t stretched, moved and nourished they become brittle, less porous and prone to breaking easily. This is the key especially if you have osteoporosis. You have to move and work to stay strong!
Getting a medical diagnosis like osteoporosis is rather shocking and there may be fear associated with “thinning bones”. Working with Shari will energize you, teaching you how to trust your body and learn how to work safely with the special challenges of osteopenia and osteoporosis.
We will work on strength training, endurance and balance. All these activities will prevent falling which is so important. Students who take up a consistent practice tell us they are able to do more things in a day, feel stronger and less achy. A consistent yoga practice can enhance your general aging – both mentally and physically – helping you feel more resilient.
This 4-session series invites you to experience all these positive effects and more.
This series is for people with osteoporosis and osteopenia. It is also appropriate for anyone interested in developing their bone health and healthy aging.
You do not need yoga experience to participate. Each session is a beginner level Iyengar yoga class with specific focus. You will learn to practice Iyengar Yoga in a safe context even though you are at home. The series will include all of the 12 core poses that are part of Dr. Loren Fishman’s ongoing “Yoga and Osteoporosis Study”.
The program will be held live-online via Zoom. Shari will get to see you in your home setting and advise you on what to do. You will have time to ask questions. It is very interactive!
This series will get you prepared for the on-going Yoga for Osteoporosis classes.
Who is this series for? You must be able to get up and down from the floor without someone helping you. Because this program is on zoom, you must be comfortable with computer use and can follow verbal instructions given by the teacher.
