The Gift of Consciousness: A Course on the Yoga Sutras in Study and Practice
February 14, 2019 - February 18, 2019
The Gift of Consciousness:
An International Module Course on the Yoga Sutras in Study and Practice
With Gitte Bechsgaard PhD CIYT & Gloria Goldberg MA CIYT
February 14 – 18, 2019
hosted by Adeline Yoga Studio in Berkeley
Module 4: Yoga as Mystical Trance: Cultivating Meditation
According to Patañjali, Yoga embraces a wide range of meditative states. All of these fall under the umbrella term of samyama. These states of super-consciousness are primarily characterized by the gradual stilling of the mind through the meditative trinity of dhāraṇā (concentration), dhyāna (meditation), and samādhi (meditative absorption).
When meditative practice intensifies, the seeker experiences a break-through of the intuitive, the sacred, and the mystical into their otherwise everyday, conditioned consciousness. In all world religions, we find that the mystical path is characterized by this kind of direct experience of the transcendental or sacred.
This 5-day course includes lecture, asana, pranayama, Sanskrit study and chant.
This program is the final module in a four-module course. This module is only open to students who have previously completed the Patanjali modules with Gitte.
Feb 14 – 18 2019: Thursday – Monday
Classes will be 9 am – 4 pm everyday. The center will open 30 minutes early.
The program will take place at the Finnish Hall located at 1970 Chestnut St, off University Avenue in Berkeley, CA 94702. The Finnish Hall has its own off-street parking. It is located close to Hwy 80, as well as the 4th street and San Pablo shopping districts.
Students are requested to bring their own props: a yoga mat, 4 blankets, two blocks and two belts. Out-of-town students should bring their own mat. We have made arrangements for out-of-town students to get their additional props for a $10 donation.
Do you live out of town? If you are flying to us, Oakland Airport (OAK) is the closest – it is a busy regional airport that is served by many airlines. You can BART or Uber to the hall in about 30 minutes. San Francisco Airport (SFO) is also convenient. It takes exactly one hour to get to downtown Berkeley on BART – then Uber or Taxi to the Finnish Hall. Drive times to SFO are unpredictable – from 40 minutes to 1 hour and 40 minutes depending on the time of day.
$600 per person
