Yoga for Osteoporosis? – A Free Chit-Chat with Shari Ser

October 1 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Yoga for Osteoporosis?

Join Shari Ser for a community chit chat

Tuesday October 1st from 6 – 7  pm pacific on zoom

free

Healthy bones help you move through the world with strength and confidence.  Bones are our supporting structure, they hold us up and literally nurture and protect us. Bones are amazing!  BUT if bones aren’t stretched, moved and nourished they become brittle, less porous and prone to breaking easily. This is the key, you have to move and work to stay strong!

This free one-hour chit chat will:

  • introduce you more to the role of bones in our body, and what bone health actually is.
  • discuss what conditions like osteoporosis are, and how they affect our body.
  • educate you about what you can do to help yourself stay strong and healthy.

Getting a medical diagnosis like osteoporosis is shocking and there is a lot of fear associated with “thinning bones”.  Shari will energize and inspire you to trust your body.  She has seen first hand how a consistent yoga practice can enhance your general aging both mentally and physically .

So why yoga specifically? How is it different from going to the gym and working out with weights? With yoga you don’t really need fancy equipment to reap benefits.  A recent study showed that 15 seconds of a static hold in specific asanas will begin to build bone strength.

Throughout the chit-chat we will learn more about this fascinating study by Loren Fishman MD and more! Shari will bring her stories of the power of yoga gleaned from decades of experience with her personal practice, her years as a home health physical therapist and from teaching yoga.

You do not need any yoga experience to participate.  This is a fun chit-chat just to explore the topic.

A recording will be sent to anyone who registers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our monthly community chit-chats are a time to get together less formally.  For many years, we would gather at the Iyengar Institute in Pune to chit-chat with Geeta Iyengar, Sunita Iyengar and now Abhijata and other RIMYI teachers.  We treasure these times together and look forward to bringing this tradition to Adeline Yoga.  Its a fun time to engage in stimulating conversation around important topics that relate to Vedic tradition and Iyengar Yoga practice specifically.

The purpose of our monthly gathers are to:

  • Excite and inspire aspiring and current yoga students everywhere
  • Give students access to our outstanding faculty, allowing them to get to know their teachers in new ways
  • Expose students to facets of Iyengar Yoga that they might know know about
  • Give teachers an opportunity to talk about topics they love

The format will vary between a presentation, Q&A and group discussion. Breakout groups and other creative uses of zoom may happen!
