SUMMARY:Iyengar Yoga for the Holidaze - Free Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Free workshop\nSunday Morning 9:30 – 10:45 am PST on December 12 \nwith Tiffany Goss \non zoom \n  \nTotal newbies are encouraged!\nNew to Adeline Yoga? We welcome you! \n  \n\nThis is for people looking to meet the opportunities and challenges of the holidays with confidence and ease. \nThis season is pretty special\, isn’t it?  The holidays give us an opportunity to be with family and friends\, encouragement to craft creative gift ideas and cook more often.  Holiday foods – and the drinking – can be deliciously fun.  But it is easy for the adrenaline to take over when Uncle Grover starts talking about booster shots and your sister publicly reminds you of that time you yelled at her until she cried.  And\, its also a significant time of year that can cause all kinds of emotions if you are missing folks that you care about. \nWe get it!  Truly with all this in the mix\, plus shorter days and busier schedules\, we have to deliberately carve out time to find the quiet inside\, support our nerves and relax our digestive system to just find some peace and quiet. \nSo come to class!  Bring a friend.  You will really enjoy it.  It is our gift to you during this special season. \nThis workshop is specially designed to support you through the Holidaze.  We will start with an active practice using support of the items you have in your house – especially the wall and a towel.  This approach will create space in your body and in your mind.  Then we will use the support of the floor to release any tensions of the season and restore your nerves.  We will end with plenty of good cheer! \n\nBe ready to activate your body\, relax your mind and renew spirit. \n  \n\n  \nRegistration: \nWe do expect that this workshop will fill up\, so register early. One hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nIf you have a set of yoga props\, thats great.  If you don’t\, that is also fine!  Please do have room at a wall and a large towel.  Something the size of a beach or bath towel will work great. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first time with us. \nYou can find out more about our Live Online Programming here \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nTiffany Goss is a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher\, and is a graduate of the Sadhana Studies program at Adeline Yoga. Her teaching can be described as authentic and compassionate. Her first Iyengar yoga class in 2012 was held in a small living room by a friend. She knew then that Iyengar yoga was her path. She resonated with the precision in instructions and corrections. \nAlso a bodyworker\, Tiffany has a thorough understanding of the body and kinesiology. Tiffany’s goal is to make yoga accessible and safe for all body types. In her free time she likes to go hiking and plan her next travel destination.

She has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) since 1983. \nShe teaches ongoing classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco (IYISF) and is also an assessor for the National Certification Committee. This provides her with a deep understanding of Iyengar Yoga. \nBorn on the Isle of Skye\, Scotland\, Janet has travelled to many parts of the world offering workshops and retreats. She has also taught at the Yoga Journal conference in San Francisco. \nBefore devoting herself to teaching exclusively\, Janet was the Program Director at IYISF. In 2001 she co-chaired the National Iyengar Yoga Conference in Pasadena where 850 students studied under Geeta S. Iyengar (BKS Iyengar’s daughter). \nHer style of teaching is faithful to the ancient tradition of yoga\, but is infused with love and light. Janet believes in sharing the joy that she has found in yoga with all who come in contact with her. This along with the technical skills she has accumulated over many years of personal practice\, study and teaching make her a much sought after teacher wherever she goes. \nABOUT THE YOGA BLESSINGS FUND:\nAdeline Yoga is committed to supporting diversity in our yoga community and social justice. The Yoga Blessings Fund is a scholarship program that encourages participation in Iyengar Yoga at Adeline Yoga. The Fund offers partial and full scholarships for nearly any class or workshop. It primarily focuses on deep studies programs such as Yoga for Life and teacher training opportunities including Sadhana Studies. \nWe established this fund in 2012 for several reasons: \n\nto provide access and support to people who come from backgrounds that are not well represented in most yoga studios\nto support current students if they lose a job or experience financial hardship\nto support those who want a deeper yoga education\, but cannot afford the entire cost of longer programs\nto support newer students who cannot attend the community classes due to their schedule.\n\nScholarships in the Yoga Blessing Fund are not based solely on need. We are committed to broadening access to yoga by encouraging practitioners who come from backgrounds that are not well represented in most yoga studios\, or who come from communities that might be less familiar with the benefits of a yoga practice. These scholarships are an invitation to participate. Students of color\, those living with disabilities or who identify as LGBTQ are especially encouraged to inquire about this opportunity. \nThe Yoga Blessings Fund is one part of a comprehensive approach to accessibility and community engagement.  For example\, we have 3 sliding-scale community classes every week\, social justice programming including a teachers group and speaker series\, and an active workstudy program. \nOur Yoga Blessings fund is the scholarship arm of our social justice initiatives.   \nIt is administered according to: \n\nFinancial need. Financial need is defined as the inability to pay the full tuition fee for the program\, based on an individual’s total financial situation (This should include assets and cash flow).\nCurrently enrolled students of Adeline Yoga.\nUnder-represented populations at the studio/Iyengar yoga.\n\nThe Yoga Blessings program is funded in three ways: \n\nIncome from overall studio sales.\nCurrent students donate classes and money.\nFundraising events such as this.\n\nFor more details\, email info@adelineyoga.com

SUMMARY:Many Corpses\, Many Savasanas with Kelly Sobanski
DESCRIPTION:Many Corpses…Many Savasanas\nA pop-up workshop to celebrate Halloween and Day of the Dead\nSaturday October 30th 2 – 4 pm PST / 5 – 7 pm EST on zoom\n  \nThere are a lot of reasons to play dead at this time of year. Savasana is the ultimate resting pose. Every part of our body deserves to rest deeply. \nThe Iyengars developed many different types of savasanas for the parts of our body that have the most difficult time relaxing. BKS Iyengar taught us that the correct practice of savasana could bring incredibly benefits\, but only if it was embodied and felt on a cellular level. He once wrote that savasana “is not simply lying on one’s back with a vacant mind and gazing\, nor does it end in snoring. It is the most difficult of yogic asanas to perfect\, but it is also the most refreshing and rewarding.” \nSavasana is a pose we do for rest and relaxation and for managing pain and injury! It is a pose that allows us to go deep within ourselves\, to enter the concisions\, subconscious and other worldly realms. Perfect for this time of year. \nIn this special workshop\, we will cover savasana for the low back\, neck and shoulders\, hamstrings\, groins and brain. Plus\, savasana for general wellness. \nThis all-levels class is best for those with at least 3 months of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice. It is also beneficial for teacher and teachers-in-training who want to help their own students. \nRecordings: \nWe plan that this zoom workshop will be recorded.  Every registrant will receive access to the recording for one month.  If you cannot attend the workshop live\, you can pre-register and receive the recording. \nTuition: \n$28 – a spooktacularly special rate! \n  \n \n\nRegistration: \nWe do expect that this workshop will sell out\, so register right away. One hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first time with us. \nYou can find out more about our Live Online Programming here \n\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\nKelly Sobanski is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Intermediate Junior III level. Based in Indiana\, she has studied directly with BKS Iyengar\, Geeta Iyengar and Abhijata Shridar including six months of study at the Iyengar Institute in Pune\, India. Kelly has deep knowledge of Iyengar Yoga therapeutics and pain management\, gleaned from her own practice and eight years assisting in Lois Steinberg’s therapy classes at Iyengar Yoga Champaign-Urbana and her time at the Iyengar Institute in Pune. Kelly has worked with many students with intricate and in-depth physical challenges. Kelly inspires practitioners at all levels to cultivate wisdom\, intuition and luminance through the endless learning that yoga unveils.  She is also a dedicated volunteer including past President of the Board of Directors for the Iyengar Yoga Association of the Mid-West. \n\n

SUMMARY:Alpha & Omega of Trikonasana: with Kelly Sobanski
DESCRIPTION:Saturday Afternoon On Zoom\nIn this workshop\, we will experiment with the methods outlined by Prashant Iyengar in his book The Alpha and Omega of Trikonasana. \nAlpha & Omega of Trikonasana offers a unique way to approach your practice: “The asana does not merely remain an action but also becomes a ‘creation’ (p.8).”   Kelly has developed an inspired sequence to explore Prashantji’s concept of returning to Trikonasana as a way to reflect and recharge. This laboratory approach involves looking at Uttitha Trikonasana in relationship with a wide variety of various poses which leads to transformations in your body and mind. \nWhat you will discover are dynamic effects and changes each time we do Uttitha Trikonasana. This sequence will literally help you organize individual structures and choreograph parts of your body so that they synchronize. These explorations bring balance and absorption into the entire body\, mind and breath. Prashant says “Wholise the part and wholise the whole! (p.81)” Furthermore\, through your own intelligence and intuition\, this practice will help us navigate your mind-stuff on and off the mat. \nWe have found that when Uttitha Trikonasana is used as a target pose\, we can explore a home…a steady structural base. By rearranging elements within the home and around the home\, our mind starts to become curious and inspired.  Warning: Magical ah-ha moments can occur when practitioners systematically feel the effects of doing a pose. \nIn this workshop\, uplifting learning moments will appear as we string poses together creatively and intentionally. Each step of the way\, discoveries and integrations will come to the surface which then will become finely tuned within the realms of observation\, awareness and curiosity. \nTruth be told\, this sequence takes dedication and concentration. We will be fine-tuning our senses and perceptions. This is a genuinely involved practice and can help one become creative within the arrangement of kinesthetic movements. Mixing up orientations and applications brings refreshment to the mind\, body and breath which then become unified. Prashant calls this “unification yogasana.” \nAt this frontier of life and yogasana practice\, we teach ourselves to engage within the now. This sequence is about calling ourselves back to ourselves over and over again. \nKelly has spent a long time creating this sequence with the intention that these studies will help practitioners be inspired. \nYou will learn: \n\nTechniques from Prashant Iyengar’s book Alpha and Omega of Trikonasana.\nTo feel effects on one side of your body compared to the other side.\nTo feel the deepening effects of returning to a target poses after other pose categories.\nSystematic approaches to understand gross and subtle actions.\nHow facets such as action\, sensation\, perception\, pensivity\, reflection\, and meditation lead to wholism.\nCreative sequencing techniques that encourage fresh experiences within Self discovery.\nHow to do poses with various epicenters (areas of focus) and elements of practice.\nSituations to study various gestures within asanas which include: moods\, efforts\, releases\, perceptions and reflections.\nHow to study the art of doing poses\, observing through poses and witnessing poses.\n\nIt is not required to read the book! Practitioners will likely be inspired to read it at some point which can be purchased from Adeline. You can purchase yours from Adeline Yoga – pick up in Berkeley or Oakland.  Order ahead of time and we can ship it . Please do order ahead so you have enough time to pick up at our contactless location in Oakland or have it shipped. \nThis course is designed for those with at least 2 years of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice and are comfortable with inversions. Modifications can be given if anyone is menstruating during the workshop. Teachers and teachers-in-training who want to learn to better help their students are most welcome. \nThis workshop is not for students who have complex health conditions. These conditions can be better addressed with private yoga sessions. If you have questions about whether this program is for you\, please email info@adelineyoga.com before registering. \nThis will be a workshop that uses props typical in an Iyengar Yoga class. Please have a belt\, blocks and blankets.  If possible\, have a bolster backless yoga chair.  You will need a cleared off wall space. \nRecordings: \nWe plan that this zoom workshop will be recorded.  Every registrant will receive access to the recording for one month.  If you cannot attend the workshop live\, you can pre-register and receive the recording. \nTuition: \n$45 – Early Bird Special – register by October 6th and save $10 \n$55 per person \n \n\nRegistration: \nWe do expect that this workshop will sell out\, so register early. One hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first class with us. SUMMARY:Muscular Strength versus Functional Strength with Janet Macleod
DESCRIPTION:Adeline Yoga is honored to welcome our teacher of teachers! \nMuscular Strength versus Functional Strength\nSaturday\, August 21st 2 – 4:30 pm PST\nA Benefit Workshop for Adeline Yoga’s Yoga Blessings Fund\nWhen I started teaching yoga many moons ago\, Mr. Universe walked into my class. I saw all these muscles and I thought he would be able to hold the asanas forever. That was not true!  In that class I learned the difference between muscular and functional strength. \nTo be able to have access to the strength of the legs\, the hips need to be open – hamstrings\, adductors\, rotators and quadriceps. In this workshop\, I will teach a variety of asanas to open the hips so that you can discover how delightful the asana can be – even increasing your ability to use your legs to hold the poses a little longer than you may be used to.  We will do explore the positive effects of this work on standing poses\, backbends and inversions. \nRecommended: One year of consistent study with a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher \n\nPlease consider attending this online workshop – good for you and good for the Yoga Blessings Fund  – it is a benefit workshop! \nWe will send the recording to everyone who is pre-registered for the workshop. The recording will be valid for 30 days. \nSuggested donation: $60 \n-OR- \nMake a donation at any level via Paypal here – ((at least one hour before)) – and we will register you. \n\nAll proceeds from this workshop will go to the Yoga Blessings Scholarship Fund to support our students during this time. Donate for yourself or for others to attend. \nTo participate\, you must register at least an hour before the workshop\n \nPaypal link: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/adelineyoga \nThis workshop will be held online via Zoom. You will be able to talk to Janet – and her to you.  It’s fun! \nOne hour before class\, the zoom link will be sent to everyone who is registered. Check out our tips for preparing for your Zoom class. \n  \nRegister Now\n  \nNot Attending?  Donate to the program using this link\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nJanet MacLeod began studying yoga in London during the late 1970’s and continues to study with the Iyengar family both in the West and in India.

These inversions – such as shoulderstand and headstand – benefit all the major systems of the body so that they function properly. \nIn this workshop we will build a strong foundation for our inversion practice. Wherever you are in your practice\, we will build from there. If you are nervous about going upside down\, we will work to meet that fear with equanimity. If you are just learning to kick up into inversions\, we will work to strengthen and stretch the arms and legs to help find a lighter\, more uplifting practice that brings us into the balance. \nThe workshop is not suitable for those completely new to yoga. It is recommended that students have at least 6 months of practice with an Iyengar Yoga teacher. \nYou will need basic props for this workshop: a yoga mat\, blocks\, 4-5 blankets\, and a strap. \nThis workshop will be held via Zoom. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to practice these poses at home.  Deidra will get to see you in your home setting and advise you on what to do.  You will have time to ask questions.  Plus\, you will have a class recording to support you afterwards. \nThis workshop will be recorded\, all who are pre-registered will receive the recording. \n  \n \n  \nTuition: \n$35 – Early Bird Special – register by August 5th and save $10 \n$45 per person \nScholarships available.  Email info@adelineyoga.com to get the details. \nRegistration: \nYou must pre-register. An hour prior to class you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first class with us. \nYou can find out more about our Live Online Programming here

I experience increased concentration and focus; energy feedback and exchange with my peers; and knowing that my teacher can effectively see me and offer more personal\, structured instruction for improved posture and alignment.  The weekend was just what I needed and I will sign up for any of these in the future. The format\, timing\, progression of posture over three days worked great for me.” – Alanna S. \n“I discovered Adeline Yoga on zoom.  As a new student\, and probably the least experienced practitioner in the class\, it was all upside for me. I learned a lot!  I really enjoyed the group and energy – and the chanting. For me right now\, I know I will make progress faster with occasional in-person classes.  Adeline Yoga offers great teaching and a great community.  The studio brings a lot of light to many people. ” – Jeff J. \n \nImportant details:\n\nThis immersion is limited to 16 people.\nThe immersion will be for all levels\, geared toward those who have at least 1 year of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice.\nTo participate you must be fully vaccinated.\nAll State mandated COVID restrictions and recommendations will be followed.\nVaccinated people are welcome to wear their masks in the studio\, but it is not mandatory.\nOnce you register\, please email a photo of your vaccination card to support@adelineyoga.com if you haven’t done so previously.\n\n  \n \nTuition:\n$108 for the entire series – a 25% discount \n$45 per session \n  \n \n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nHeather Haxo Phillips is a certified Iyengar yoga instructor at the Senior Intermediate 1 (Level\, 3) among the highest certified Iyengar teachers in the East Bay. Backdropped by the mood of that space\, a female body tries to find restful stillness. In that process\, she maneuvers changing internal and physical landscapes through yoga asana and functional training movements.” \n  \n  \nAll your instructors are participants in this year’s Sadhana Studies Program. \nTO REGISTER\nSend a donation of $5 or more to paypal.me/danieldragonstaff or Venmo @danieldragonstaff \nYou will receive an email with a Zoom link at least 15 minutes before the first class of the day \n  \n  \n ABOUT YOUR HOST DANIEL\nI first first laid eyes on this magical prop in 2016 and was completely entranced. It was like seeing a real-life wizard for the first time\, I had never seen anything like it. Without ever trying a “flow prop” or knowing any flow people I ordered one online and became obsessed. Since then dragonstaff and flow arts as a whole has become a major part of my life\, or to be blunt\, it is my life. \nAbout the FLOWA Festival Teachers :\nAmy Wieliczka has been practicing various flow arts\, object manipulation\, and juggling for over a decade. Specializing in contact-style manipulation\, she primarily works with hoops\, staves\, and juggling clubs. Her love of this art form has brought her to teach and perform at juggling and flow arts festivals around the world. Amy also serves on the Board of Directors of the International Jugglers’ Association in order to build the juggling community\, share the love of juggling far and wide\, and to support her fellow jugglers\, and is always excited to teach and welcome people into the community. \n  \nBonita Smulski will be teaching a Level I backbend class on Saturday\, June 26 from 1:00 – 2:00. Backbends are essential in keeping a healthy\, well-functioning spine (think: ‘my poor aching back’). Backbends helps us to open up our front chest and lungs. It seems that our natural\, and gravitational pull\, causes a slight tilting forward of the upper torso and spine. This puts a lot of pressure on the lower back and reduces our lung’s capacity to breath. In this class we will be looking at some simple approaches to opening up the chest while giving our back muscles some ‘massaging’ through yoga extensions and holds. \n  \nLaura Volsansky (RYT-200) has been practicing yoga for over 10 years\, teaching for nearly 6. She initially started practicing yoga at the recommendation of a physical therapist while recovering from sciatica. Laura’s enthusiasm for yoga inspired two trips to India to study yoga with Sri H.S. Arun at Prashant Yogashraya in Bangalore. She has completed an Advanced Studies course at Downtown Yoga\, Pleasanton with Kate Coughlin\, Yoga for Life course with Anneke Faas and Sachiko Willis at Adeline Yoga\, Berkeley and most recently completed Sadhana Studies/Apprenticeship Year 1 under the direction of Heather Haxo Phillips at Adeline Yoga. Laura loves to share her passion for yoga and welcomes students at all levels. \n  \nABOUT THE YOGA BLESSINGS FUND:\nAdeline Yoga is committed to supporting diversity in our yoga community and social justice. \n  \nWe established this fund in 2012 for several reasons: \n\nto provide access and support to people who come from backgrounds that are not well represented in most yoga studios\nto support current students if they lose a job or experience financial hardship\nto support those who want a deeper yoga education\, but cannot afford the entire cost of longer programs\nto support newer students who cannot attend the community classes due to their schedule.\n\nScholarships in the Yoga Blessing Fund are not based solely on need. For example\, we have sliding-scale community classes every week\, social justice programming and an active workstudy program. \nOur Yoga Blessings fund is the scholarship arm of our social justice initiatives.  \nIt is administered according to: \n\nFinancial need. Financial need is defined as the inability to pay the full tuition fee for the program\, based on an individual’s total financial situation (This should include assets and cash flow).\nCurrently enrolled students of Adeline Yoga.\nUnder-represented populations at the studio/Iyengar yoga.\n\nThe Yoga Blessings program is funded in three ways: \n\nIncome from overall studio sales.\nCurrent students donate classes and money.\nFundraising events such as this.\n\n[clear-line] \nFor more details\, email info@adelineyoga.com

SUMMARY:A Profoundly Healing & Useful Sequence for Iyengar Yoga practitioners - with Kelly Sobanski
DESCRIPTION:A Profoundly Healing & Useful Sequence for Iyengar Yoga practitioners\n(also known as the Post-Menstrual Practice though it is a WHOLE lot more)\nwith Kelly Sobansky\nOpen to all genders\, whether or not you menstruate\nJune 19 from 2 – 4:30 PST via zoom\nIn this workshop\, we will practice the post-menstrual sequence from Lois Steinberg’s book “Geeta S. Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Practice.”  The effects of this amazing sequence are like going to the spa; ultimate refreshment.  It offers benefits to all the internal organs and has calming effects that all of us need.   You will learn practice techniques to help uplift yourself and balance any feelings of heaviness and depletion. \nThis is a perfect practice for all genders\, regardless of whether you menstruate\, as it helps balance hormones and stress levels. It encourages organic heath for the reproductive organs\, digestive system and our nerves. For example\, its a go-to sequence for digestive issues including constipation. Even the resilience of the lungs are improved when you practice this sequence.  Its a great sequence to learn so you can use it if you have a cough or sore throat (remember\, fire season is coming) \nPerhaps best of all this sequence is extremely helpful to release stress build-up and tension. It is quieting for the soul and healing for the spirit. BKS Iyengar taught that when the head is lower than the heart\, the mind surrenders. \nOk yes you can tell that we REALLY love this sequence. Kelly has studied by Lois’s side for over 10 years\, and she feels honored to share details and benefits that she has learned.  Truly\, it is one of the most cherished sequences and worth repeating over a lifetime. \nYou will learn: \n* The health benefits of the Post-Menstrual Sequence beyond menses.\n* Poses that stabilize the hips and create space in the organic body.\n* Poses that alleviate irritability\, stress and depression.\n* Poses that help balance hormones.\n* Poses that help with help the organic body to lift including the bladder\, kidneys\, urethra and urinary track.\n* Inversions to help alleviate mineral depletion from bones.\n* Poses that encourage a relaxation and uplifting response to release stress within the body\, mind and emotions.\n  \nThis course is designed for those with at least 2 years of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice and are comfortable with inversions. Modifications can be given if anyone is menstruating during the workshop or one can take notes and then practice the asana via the recording. Teachers and teachers-in-training who want to learn to better help their students are most welcome. \n  \nThis workshop is not for students who have complex uterine health issues or who have conditions where inversions are contra-indicated. These conditions can be better addressed with private yoga sessions. If you have high or low blood pressure\, please email us before the workshop.   If you have questions about whether this program is for you\, please email info@adelineyoga.com before registering. \nThis will be a workshop that uses props typical in an Iyengar Yoga class.  Please have 1 belt\, 3 blankets\, 1 bolster\, 1 backless yoga chair\, 2 blocks  & a cleared off wall space. This workshop involves a rope wall.  Kelly will offer modifications if you do not have a rope wall. \nA copy of Lois Steinberg book’ Geeta S. Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Yoga Practice: Volume I is recommended. You can purchase yours from Adeline Yoga (pick up in Oakland) or through Lois (she ships). Just order ahead so you have enough time to pick up at our contactless location in Oakland or have it shipped. \n  \nRecordings: \nWe plan that this zoom workshop will be recorded.  Every registrant will receive access to the recording for one month.  If you cannot attend the workshop live\, you can pre-register and receive the recording. \n  \nTuition: \n$45 – Early Bird Special – register by June 5 and save $10 \n$55 per person \n \n  \n\n  \nRegistration: \nWe do expect that this workshop will sell out\, so register early. One hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first class with us. \nYou can find out more about our Live Online Programming here \n\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\nKelly Sobanski is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Intermediate Junior III level. SUMMARY:Caring for Your Back Pain
DESCRIPTION:Caring for Your Back Pain\nMondays 5:45 – 7:15 pm PST\n \nStarts May 17\, 2021 \nwith Sachiko Willis and Shari Ser \nThis is a unique course offered in two parts that includes asana and anatomy. \nYou may take one or both parts \nThis course will be held live on zoom. \n  \nPART 1:  CARING FOR YOUR BACK PAIN\nFOUR MONDAYS: May 17 – June 7 FROM 5:45 – 7:15 pm PST\nWITH SACHIKO WILLIS\nEven people who practice yoga have occasional back  issues.  They are common ailments of modern life.  There are many ways to harness the power of yoga to address these pains\, whether you have a catch in the back\, a nagging injury\, a persistent pain or a congenital condition.   This 4-session course will use the categories of yoga poses as a framework for learning so you can develop a toolkit of approaches that will help you understand your pain and improve your experience of well-being. \nThis series will pick up where we left off in the last series.  Each week we will focus on specific categories of poses including forward bends\, backbends\, twists and inversions – and how they interact with your back.  You will learn practical approaches  that you can use in regular classes and on your own to take care of yourself when you need it. \nThis series is for people who have been practicing yoga regularly for at least 6 months. Teachers and teachers in training will also benefit from this program – learning how to modify poses for students and how to approach back-care oriented sequencing.  You do not need to have taken this series before. \nEvery session builds on the previous class\, so it is best if you can take all four. Drop ins will be allowed if that is needed. \n  \nRecordings will be made available to those who pre-register. \nYou must register for every class that you plan to attend.  \n\nPART 2:  ANATOMY OF THE SPINE  \nTWO MONDAYS: June 14 & 21 FROM 5:45 – 7:15 pm PST\nWITH SHARI SER\nAnatomy is fun and fascinating\, especially when you have learned the movements in your body and on your mat! You will learn more what is actually happening inside the body when you have injury or pain in that area. \nThese two sessions will cover the area of the spine especially the bones\, muscles and joints of the back.  We will take a deeper look at the poses taught in part 1 to understand the effects on our anatomy. \nPart 2 will be primarily lecture and a group discussion. To participate\, you do not need to take part 1 though it is strongly advised.  This is a great program for students\, teachers-in-training and teachers. \n  \nRecordings will be made available to those who pre-register. \nYou must register for every class that you plan to attend.  \n  \nTuition:  Use your membership or class pass.  Or drop-in for $22 \n  \n\nCANNOT ATTEND THE WHOLE THING?\nDrop-ins are allowed for parts 1 and 2.  Students may use any regular Adeline Yoga class pass or purchase a $22 drop-in to attend. \nMake sure you register for each class before it starts.  One hour prior to class you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions to login to your class. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first class with us. \n  \n \n  \nAbout the Instructor:\n  \nSachiko Nishizawa Willis is a practitioner and a certified yoga therapy teacher\, with particular interest in therapeutic effects of the practice. SUMMARY:Somatic Particularity with Gwi-Seok Hong
DESCRIPTION:Somatic Particularity with Gwi-Seok Hong\nSaturday\, May 8th\n1 – 3:30 PM PST\nIyengar Yoga recognizes asana itself as a gateway to transformation on all levels. Instead of being separate from the other limbs of yoga\, asana is actually an entry point. Not only can we apply asana as a personal gateway to transformation\, we can influence social and collective change by practicing it. As we work through the particularity of our own bodies\, we shape the way we relate to the ground beneath us\, the people around us\, and the communities we live in. Let’s explore this together through a wide range of asanas. \n“Somatic particularity” is a phrase coined by Gwi-Seok to describe Iyengar Yoga in order to replace the word “alignment” which connotes correctness\, an external judge\, and sometimes\, dogma. Instead\, let’s approach asana as a creative\, adaptable practice\, to address whatever is needed on a given day: PMS\, backache\, anxiety\, lethargy\, etc.  This will not be a therapeutics workshop\, but rather a chance for each of us to become ever more sensitive to the effects of asana in our own bodies\, and on our own minds\, so that we can continually refine our practices to heal and evolve ourselves. \nThis is a workshop for people with Iyengar Yoga experience. \nAfter the workshop\, Gwi-Seok will also offer a conversation on the Next Generation of Iyengar Yoga from 3:45 – 4:45 PST.  Please register for that here. \nRecordings: \nWe plan that this zoom workshop will be recorded.  Every registrant will receive access to the recording for one month.  If you cannot attend the workshop live\, you can pre-register and receive the recording. \n  \n \n  \nEquity Pricing:\nRoots = $20\nBalancer = $40\nSponsor = $60 \n  \n  \nRegistration: \nYou must pre-register.
