SUMMARY:Chit Chat with Inbal Meron: The two pillars of yogic development - Free
DESCRIPTION:The two pillars of yogic development: practice and detachment\n\nJoin Inbal Meron for a community chit chat\nMonday\, March 25 from 7:30 – 8:30 pm pacific on zoom\n  \nOne of the key benefits of practicing yoga is how it helps us to calm the mind. Iyengar Yoga gives us many practices to develop this quiet inside.  The first two practices we start with are the twin pillars of practice and detachment.  Join us for a chit-chat to learn more about how yoga philosophy explains the purpose and use of these two pillars.  In this free\, one-hour discussion\, we will explore the practicalities of yogic practice and detachment\, both on the mat and off. \nWe’ll chat about: \n\nWhy we practice\nWhat are we practicing?\nHow to stay consistent with practice when life’s demands get in the way.\nWhat to do when we fall out of practice?\nDetachment and letting go.\nWhy is detachment useful?\nWhat are we detaching from?\nIs detachment a realistic expectation in our modern world?\n\nWe’ll explore these pillars philosophically and also in a real practical sense of our day to day practice on the mat.  The practice of Iyengar Yoga can be a powerful tool for developing mindfulness and increasing overall well-being. We can’t wait to chat all about it! \n\nREGISTER NOW\nWHAT TO EXPECT\nThe yoga tradition offers us so much wisdom.  Even within Iyengar Yoga there is a universe of interesting topics to discuss.  Over an informal hour together\, we will take a deeper dive into one specific topic that we love. \nWe welcome everyone whether you are brand new to Adeline Yoga or have been an Iyengar Yoga practitioner for decades. \nOur monthly chit-chats are a fun time for community conversations together.  For many years\, we have gathered at the Iyengar Institute in Pune to chit-chat with Geeta Iyengar\, Sunita Iyengar and now Abhijata and other RIMYI teachers.  We treasure these times together and enjoy bringing this tradition to Adeline Yoga.  It is a fun time to engage in stimulating conversation around important topics that relate to the greater Yoga tradition. \nThe purpose of our monthly gathers are to: \n\nExcite and inspire aspiring and current yoga students everywhere\nGive students access to our outstanding faculty\, allowing them to get to know their teachers in new ways\nExpose students to facets of Iyengar Yoga that they might know know about\nGive teachers an opportunity to talk about topics they love\n\nOur monthly chit-chats are typically the last Monday of each month.  The format varies between a presentation\, Q&A and group discussion. Breakout groups and other creative uses of zoom may happen! \nTUITION:\nFree! \nA recording will be sent to anyone who registers. \nWant to support these chit-chats a little more?  Send a donation via pay-pal here: PayPal.me/adelineyoga \n  \nREGISTER NOW\n  \n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\n\nInbal Meron (she/her) discovered Yoga during her studies for a degree in Plant Science in 2005. She teaches ongoing classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco (IYISF); is on the faculty of the teacher training program there; is an assessor for the National Certification of yoga instructors; and conducts workshops and retreats worldwide. Her style of teaching is faithful to the ancient tradition of yoga\, but is infused with love and light. \nJanet believes in sharing the joy that she has found in yoga with all who come in contact with her. This along with the technical skills she has accumulated over many years of personal practice\, study and teaching make her a much sought after teacher wherever she goes.  Find out more about Janet at her website: http://www.jmacleodyoga.com/\n \nABOUT THE YOGA BLESSINGS FUND:\nAdeline Yoga is committed to supporting diversity in our yoga community and social justice. The Yoga Blessings Fund is a scholarship program that encourages participation in Iyengar Yoga at Adeline Yoga. The Fund offers partial and full scholarships for nearly any class or workshop. It primarily focuses on deep studies programs such as Yoga for Life and teacher training opportunities including Sadhana Studies. \nWe established this fund in 2012 for several reasons: \n\nto provide access and support to people who come from backgrounds that are not well represented in most yoga studios\nto support current students if they lose a job or experience financial hardship\nto support those who want a deeper yoga education\, but cannot afford the entire cost of longer programs\nto support newer students who cannot attend the community classes due to their schedule.\n\nScholarships in the Yoga Blessing Fund are not based solely on need. We are committed to broadening access to yoga by encouraging practitioners who come from backgrounds that are not well represented in most yoga studios\, or who come from communities that might be less familiar with the benefits of a yoga practice. These scholarships are an invitation to participate. Students of color\, those living with disabilities or who identify as LGBTQ are especially encouraged to inquire about this opportunity. \nThe Yoga Blessings Fund is one part of a comprehensive approach to accessibility and community engagement.  For example\, we have 3 sliding-scale community classes every week\, social justice programming including a teachers group and speaker series\, and an active workstudy program. \n  \nOur Yoga Blessings fund is the scholarship arm of our social justice initiatives.   \nIt is administered according to: \n\nFinancial need. Financial need is defined as the inability to pay the full tuition fee for the program\, based on an individual’s total financial situation (This should include assets and cash flow).\nCurrently enrolled students of Adeline Yoga.\nUnder-represented populations at the studio/Iyengar yoga.\n\n  \nThe Yoga Blessings program is funded in three ways: \n\nIncome from overall studio sales.\nCurrent students donate classes and money.\nFundraising events such as this.\n\nFor more details\, email info@adelineyoga.com

Adeline Yoga will celebrate what would have been his 105th birthday with a special 2-hour Iyengar yoga workshop that will incorporate experiential exploration of some of the many styles of Iyengar Yoga through time. The program will incorporate media – including video clips\, sound clips and readings – that help share the rich and vast teachings that have helped millions of people around the world as well as shaped the yoga everyone knows today. \nThis program will be followed by time for tea\, community gathering\, and surprises. \nFree – You must pre-register to save your spot. Space will be limited. \n  \nREGISTER NOW\n  \nWant to make a donation in honor of BKS Iyengar and this event?  Proceeds from any donations go to IYNAUS\, the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. You can send your donation to us via zelle or paypal to heather@adelineyoga.com \nAbout your instructor\nRamona Atanacio (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. She first began a daily practice in law school to support her busy and active lifestyle. Ramona’s love for the practice grew as she learned that the study of yoga\, and the discovery of the mind and body\, was limitless. This led her to deepen her study of yoga through an initial teacher training program and Ashtanga yoga\, which eventually led to Iyengar Yoga. She has found Iyengar Yoga to bring a much greater awareness and focus to her practice and life. \nRamona likes to teach an Iyengar Yoga class that is approachable\, invigorating\, and fun\, while also blending therapeutic and restorative elements of yoga. In her spare time\, she enjoys cooking Indian food in an Instant Pot and learning new dance moves. \nRamona serves as a volunteer for the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States.  She teaches at Adeline Yoga Tuesday mornings 7 am and Sundays at 9 am.

The Fund offers partial and full scholarships for nearly any class or workshop. It primarily focuses on deep studies programs such as Yoga for Life and teacher training opportunities including Sadhana Studies. \nSo far in 2020\, we have given over $13\,000 in scholarships. For example\, we have 3 sliding-scale community classes every week\, social justice programming including a teachers group and speaker series\, and an active work study program. \nOur Yoga Blessings fund is the scholarship arm of our social justice initiatives.  \nIt is administered according to: \n\nFinancial need. Financial need is defined as the inability to pay the full tuition fee for the program\, based on an individual’s total financial situation (This should include assets and cash flow).\nCurrently enrolled students of Adeline Yoga.\nUnder-represented populations at the studio/Iyengar yoga.\n\nThe Yoga Blessings program is funded in three ways: \n\nIncome from overall studio sales.\nCurrent students donate classes and money.\nFundraising events such as this.\n\nFor more details\, email info@adelineyoga.com

SUMMARY:Racial Justice in Yoga: Continuing the Conversation
DESCRIPTION:A Weekend Workshop\nwith Aaron Johnson and Holistic Resistance\n \nSaturday – Sunday:  Nov 4 & 5\, 2023 \n3 sessions over two days \nJoin us to talk about race\, identity and human connection.  With an emphasis on personal relationship\, this weekend will give you an opportunity to explore how our thoughts about race and racism affect our individual selves and communities.  Using active listening\, group exercises and singing\, participants will gain confidence embracing the unknown\, unfamiliar and difficult issues in our lives such as race and racism. \n  \n\n\n \n\n\nWhat you can expect: \n\nDeep connection and relating to people across identities about oppression and liberation\nSelf-inquiry and witnessing others in deep inquiry\nCollaborative\, innovative\, and participatory group work and conversation.\nIntimate\, deep\, and thoughtful work in pairs/dyads.\nBeing physical & in close proximity with others (consent-based; no intensive exercise)\nExpanding your ability to sit with discomfort\nUsing your voice in various ways to express and discharge emotions\nLearning to more deeply hold Black stories\, pain\, and resilience\n\n\nSession 1: Saturday 1 – 2:30 pm\nInterrupting the Chronically UnderTouched Trauma Story\nThis session is specifically for people of color & people of the global majority to support each other in community. \nBeing chronically underTouched/and under heard is not a coincidence. Together\, we will work toward dismantling hurts and trauma stories around belonging\, vulnerability and hearing each other right where we are. The trauma of America does not have to shape how WE interact. \nWe’re seeking tender connection and openness for conversations that is hard to have in today’s mainstream culture. During our our time together\, we will take on many questions\, such as: \n⁃ Where can you be tender?\n⁃ What does it mean to be close and supported?\n⁃ Where do we go to grieve? \nSession 1 is specifically for people of the global majority / people of color. White folks should join the weekend starting with Session 2 the Song Circle. \nTuition:  Free.  Pre-registration not needed. \n  \nSession 2: Saturday 3 – 5 pm\nSound of Rest: Song Circle\nEveryone is welcome!! This workshop is an anti-racist\, black-led space to reclaim our community and our voices as singers. The song circle is partly comprised of improv singing\, learning traditional African heritage songs\, beatboxing\, and sounding with our voices. Noticing where we can bring music back into our homes and community. All singers have a choice when it feels good to sing\, and they can also observe. \nThis space is African Heritage-led.  All are encouraged and welcome to attend. \nThis is for: \n\nPeople interested in building community\nPeople interested in how our bodies process emotions\nPeople who have been told they can’t sing\nChildren are welcome at the song circle\, but the event is not geared toward kids.\n\nTuition:  $5 – $25 \n \n  \nSession 3: Sunday 2 – 5 pm\nStay Looking: Deep Dive Oriented Toward White Folks to Practice Antiracism\nStay Looking is a deep dive exploring social justice and healing from oppressive systems. This workshop will have content around Black oppression and lynching\, with tools to stay present with what arises. \nOur event begins in our personal journey of silence and song — with tools to be in relationship with the mind\, body\, and heart — and progresses into the collective awareness of Black oppression and lynching. \nPractices offered will support you in sitting with what arises in this deep contemplation\, like anger\, grief\, rage\, sadness\, discomfort\, and hope. The practice is to stay present in our bodies\, nature\, and community. \nPlease come with an understanding that our deep contemplation on unrested labor\, lynching\, and dismantling oppression in America is a big topic that we will open the door to our ability to stay looking. \nSunday’s program will be held in-person at our Berkeley studio.  Zoom will also be an option. This session is geared towards white-identified and white-skinned people.  AND\, all racial identities are welcome. \nTuition:  $50 – $150 \n \n\nABOUT OUR EVENTS WITH HOLISTIC RESISTANCE:\n \nWhat You Can Expect: \n\nCollaborative\, innovative\, and participatory group work and conversation.\nIntimate\, deep\, and thoughtful work in pairs/dyads.\nActive listening exercises as tools to take with you after the workshop\nBreathwork and meditation to ground and center us.\n\nHolistic Resistance has been bringing practice and action together in communities across the country. With an emphasis on personal relationship and closeness\, we aim to build life-long connections and transformation. Our approach in these workshops combines deeply honoring the healing power of yoga and disrupting the unconscious patterns of racism in our communities and individual selves. \nOppression affects people of color on all levels of life. Holistic Resistance is drawn to practices that support all levels of life such as yoga. Yoga practitioners have a felt-sense in their bodies of what it can be like to sit with discomfort\, to commit to a practice\, to explore the yamas and niyamas on a deeply personal level.  This weekend is an opportunity for us to gather and explore how we can use our existing tools to benefit ourselves and our community. \n\n\n\nWho is this for?\n \nThis workshop is for anyone who is interested in the intersection of yoga and social justice. It is for people who are already in the yoga community and for folks who have not had as much exposure to yoga yet.  Aaron is committed to making all sessions accessible\, trauma-informed\, and effective for all levels of students. \nSunday’s workshop is geared towards white-identified and white-skinned people.  AND\, all racial identities are welcome. People of the Global Majority (PGM) and people of color are at the center of our care in spaces where white people are working on undoing their racism. This is one of the many ways we model how to resist holistically. Aaron invites every person of color to attend the Saturday session and/or have a one-on-one conversation with him prior to the workshop to make sure they are being thought about the entire time they are present in our workshops. \n  \n\n\n“Yoga is firstly for individual growth\, but through individual growth\, society and community develop.”\n– B.K.S. Iyengar \n  \n \n \nPricing\n \n  \nSession 1: Free \nSpecifically for people of color / people of global majority \n  \nSession 2: Saturday 3 – 5 ” Song Circle” \nIn person \nSliding sale $5 – $15 – $25 \n  \nSession 3 – Sunday 2 – 5 – “Stay Looking”  \nIn person or via zoom \nSliding scale $50 – $100 – $150. \n  \n \n  \nAll are encouraged to attend regardless of ability to pay. Need help registering?  Email us directly to support@adelineyoga.com. \n \n\n\n\n \n\nAbout Holistic Resistance\n \nAaron Johnson (he/him) is a facilitator\, public speaker\, and touch specialist working to identify and interrupt barriers between people. As co-founder of both Holistic Resistance and Grief to Action\, Aaron takes the time to hold the stories of black people around homophobia\, transphobia\, internalized racism\, and those that are Chronically UnderTouched. \nBecause oppression is a part of historical and present American culture\, the long-term impact of those trauma stories should be acknowledged and held as a map for our collective healing. Aaron Johnson practices and invites various methods of moving through these stories\, such as the communal listening ear\, sound healing\, meditation\, and closeness to the earth. Read more at www.holisticresistance.com. \nHolistic Resistance has been working with Adeline Yoga since 2017\, providing staff training and support for the entire community.  In 2023\, Aaron did an incredible workshop for our national association\, at the IYNAUS convention in San Diego.  We cannot wait to have him back in the Bay Area and at our new studio to continue this important work.

SUMMARY:What are the acts of yoga? A philosophy chit-chat with Ruchi
DESCRIPTION:What are the acts of yoga?\nJoin Ruchi Murlidhar for a community chit chat\nMonday\, October 30th from 7:30 – 8:30 pm pst on zoom\nIn the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali\, the chapter on yogic practice opens with discussion about the acts of yoga.  They include:  zeal in practice\, study of the self and surrender. \nIn the commentary on this Sutra 2.1\, BKS Iyengar states that for Patanjali\, the practice of yoga is the “yoga of action” called kriya yoga.  Kriya yoga is a path both for the beginner and more experienced practitioner to learn how to stabilize the mind. BKS Iyengar explains that kriya yoga is composed of self-discipline\, self study and surrender to God.  These three types of practice of kriya yoga helps us explore the path of action\, the path of knowledge\, and the path of devotion. \nSutra 2.1 gives an important perspective on why we get on the mat\, and how to live our yoga out in the world.  It is a sutra that every yoga practitioner should know about! \nLet us get together to explore this beautiful and important sutra.  We will discuss how these practices of yoga play out in daily life\, and what the three paths have to do with each other. \nThis is a free discussion.  No experience with yoga philosophy is needed. \nYOU ARE INVITED TO THE CHIT-CHAT\nGot a question for the teachers?  Just want to hang out?  Our monthly community chit-chats are a time to get together less formally. \nThe yoga tradition offers us so much wisdom.  Even within Iyengar Yoga there is a universe of interesting topics to discuss.  Over a brief-one hour session we will take a deeper dive into one specific topic that we love. \n\nWHAT TO EXPECT\nOur monthly community chit-chats are a time to get together less formally.  For many years\, we would gather at the Iyengar Institute in Pune to chit-chat with Geeta Iyengar\, Sunita Iyengar and now Abhijata and other RIMYI teachers.  We treasure these times together and look forward to bringing this tradition to Adeline Yoga.  Its a fun time to engage in stimulating conversation around important topics that relate to Vedic tradition and Iyengar Yoga practice specifically. \nThe purpose of our monthly gathers are to: \n\nExcite and inspire aspiring and current yoga students everywhere\nGive students access to our outstanding faculty\, allowing them to get to know their teachers in new ways\nExpose students to facets of Iyengar Yoga that they might know know about\nGive teachers an opportunity to talk about topics they love\n\nThroughout 2023\, we will host a monthly chit-chat on the last Monday of the month\, 7:30 pm pst on zoom.  The format will vary between a presentation\, Q&A and group discussion. Breakout groups and other creative uses of zoom may happen! \nTuition: \nFree! \n\nWant to support these chit-chats a little more?  Send a donation via pay-pal here: PayPal.me/adelineyoga \n  \n\n  \nAbout your facilitator:\n  \n \nRuchi Murlidhar (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and a certified Yoga Therapist (c-IAYT).  She is graduate of the Advanced Studies/Teacher Training program of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. Ruchi began learning yoga in elementary school in India and tried various forms of yoga before focusing on Iyengar Yoga. She studies regularly with her mentor Elise Miller along with other senior teachers Lois Steinberg\, Jito Yumibe and Victoria Austin who is also her pranayama teacher. She has also been fortunate to study in India at RIMYI with Geeta Iyengar. Ruchi completed the Yoga Vidya program with Heather Haxo Phillips and has a regular chanting practice. She is often found experimenting in the kitchen and enjoys California sunshine while hiking/biking with her two boys. She loves to volunteer at her kids school and in her community. Her vibrant personality and sense of humor make her classes playful and accessible for students of all ages. \n

SUMMARY:Chit Chat: Using Ayurveda to transition to Autumn - Free
DESCRIPTION:How Ayurveda can help you during this seasonal transition\nJoin Sandy Lamerson for a community chit chat\nMonday September 18 from 7:30 – 8:30 pm pst\nFree \nIn this chit-chat we will discuss how best to transition from summer to autumn.  Depending on where you live\, the summer heat and sun can cause an increase in pitta dosha and also give you a feeling of exhaustion\, depletion and dryness.  As we transition toward the cool\, dry and windy weather of autumn\, our body can feel quite different.  The ancient tradition of Ayurveda thinks of autumn as  “vata season” because that is when the changes in weather –  plus decreased light and warmth – can cause vata dosha to increase in our body and mind.  Are you feeling this inside yourself?  What to do about it? \nThe transition of seasons is called ritu sandhi. It is a very important juncture to shift your seasonal routines (ritucharya) so you can balance the qualities of the upcoming season inside yourself. \nWe will chat about what fall seasonal routines are optimal and how to use them with your unique constitution (doshas).  Sandy will share which Ayurvedic recipes and cooking methods can help you feel most balanced. We’ll also discuss ways to adapt your yoga practice to find balance in the seasonal transition. \n \nWHAT TO EXPECT IN A CHIT-CHAT\nThe great yoga tradition offers us so much wisdom.  Even within Iyengar Yoga there is a universe of interesting topics to discuss about how to take care of our body and mind. \nThe purpose of our monthly gathers are to: \n\nExcite and inspire aspiring and current yoga students everywhere\nGive students access to our outstanding faculty\, allowing them to get to know their teachers in new ways\nExpose students to facets of Iyengar Yoga that they might know know about\nGive teachers an opportunity to talk about topics they love\n\nThroughout 2023\, we plan to host chit-chats monthly.  The format will vary between a presentation\, Q&A and group discussion. Breakout groups and other creative uses of zoom may happen! \nTUITION:\nFree! \nA recording will be sent to anyone who registers. \nWant to support these chit-chats a little more?  Send a donation via pay-pal here: PayPal.me/adelineyoga \n  \n  \n \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\n\n  \n\n \nSandy Lamerson (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher\, Ayurvedic Health Counselor and meditation practitioner. Sandy began her yoga and meditation practice in 2005. She trained and worked at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco since 2014. She is a graduate of Kerala Ayurveda Academy’s Ayurvedic Health Counselor program and is currently completing her Ayurvedic Practitioner level training. \nSandy has lived and practiced at Buddhist meditation centers in the US and Asia for many years. Her work with the wisdom and compassion practices offered through Buddhism inspires her deepest intention of waking up and transforming suffering – her own and others. Sandy provides a welcoming environment for all to experience the benefits of yoga. Her knowledge of Ayurveda informs her approach and ability to offer practices tailored to the individual\, time and season. As a new mother\, Sandy also offers pre- and post-natal yoga support to parents. \n\n\n  \nOne hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? What can I expect?\nThis retreat is for dedicated Iyengar Yoga practitioners who regularly attend continuing beginner or intermediate classes with certified Iyengar Yoga teachers. \nThis retreat is best suited for people who have at least 1 year experience studying Iyengar Yoga consistently.  Ideally\, your studies would have already included an introduction to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.  This retreat is for serious students\, and is an excellent opportunity for teachers and teachers in training. \nOur asana practice sessions will mostly be active and invigorating\, with plenty of backbends\, twists and long-held inversions. It is assumed that every participant is excited to do these poses\, or they they know alternatives and modifications that they would normally do when these poses are taught. \nOur contemplative work will include extended savasana\, restorative yoga\, pranayama and mediation. \nA retreat is a quiet place that you go to in order to withdraw from the regular routine of daily life and rest in a private place.  So\, you should be excited to keep your phone and other devices away\, for the most part. \nI’M READY\n\nWhat else you need to know:\nParticipants are requested to bring their yoga practice kit: 4 blankets\, mat\, two blocks and a strap. Traveling without props?  You can purchase them here\, or rent the kit from us for $25. \nDelicious vegetarian meals are part of this special experience:  The culinary staff can accommodate specific needs such as gluten free\, wheat free\, sugar free\, garlic free\, onion free\, nut free\, and vegan.  When you register\, please let us know your requirements.  A guest refrigerator is also available for anyone who brings their own food items. \nMindfulness is an important aspect of your stay at the Land of Medicine Buddha: As a Buddhist retreat center\, guests are invited to be mindful of their actions of body and speech and to be aware that other people share this beautiful space.  All guests are invited observe these five precepts: (1) No killing – this includes all insects. (2) No lying (3) No stealing – borrowing without asking permission. (4) No sexual misconduct – any sexual activity that will cause suffering to another being. (5) No intoxicants – includes alcohol\, drugs and smoking cigarettes. \nCancellation details: Cancellations received by May 15 are entitled to a full refund minus a $50 admin fee. Cancellations received by June 15th are entitled to a full credit towards future Adeline Yoga programs\, minus a $50 admin fee. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations after June 15th. SUMMARY:Twisting & Untwisting with Janet MacLeod
DESCRIPTION:Adeline Yoga is honored to welcome our teacher of teachers!\n \nTwisting & Untwisting with Janet MacLeod\nSaturday\, April 29th 2 – 4:30 pm\nin person at our Berkeley studio\nA Benefit Workshop for Adeline Yoga’s Yoga Blessings Fund\nTwisting in yoga is fascinating!  There are Asanas which are twists\, and there are ones which are not called twists\, but you still twist.  A good example is Triangle Pose. When you do Utthita Trikonasana to the right\, you twist to the left to remove distortion. When you do Parivrtta Trikonasana to the right\, you twist to the right as this Asana is formally a standing twist. We will explore how this works in a variety of Asanas. \nTwists are not Asanas that you can fall into.  They take a certain mental focus to ease your way into them\, which is so good for the mind.  Indeed\, twists are very healing asanas.  They are beneficial for the spine\, which can help with neck and shoulder pain\, as well as back pain.  Plus\, they tone all of the internal organs which can support your endocrine system and immune health – to name just a few of the benefits. \nIn this special workshop\, we will have fun twisting\, untwisting and twisting to untwist. \nRecommended: One year of consistent study with a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher \nPAY WHAT YOU LIKE!\nSuggested donation: $50 \n\n\n  \n-OR- \nMake a donation for any amount via Paypal. If you are paying less than $50\, make your donation here \n\nAdd a note that it’s for Janet’s workshop. We will register you and send you a confirmation. \nFor Paypal donations\, you must do this at least 1 hour prior to the workshop.  \n\n\n\nAll proceeds from this workshop will go to the Yoga Blessings Scholarship Fund to support our students. Donate for yourself or for others to attend.\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nJanet MacLeod began studying yoga in London during the late 1970’s and continues to study with the Iyengar family both in the West and in India. She has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) since 1983. \nShe teaches ongoing classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco (IYISF) and is also an assessor for the National Certification Committee. This provides her with a deep understanding of Iyengar Yoga. \nBorn on the Isle of Skye\, Scotland\, Janet has travelled to many parts of the world offering workshops and retreats. She has also taught at the Yoga Journal conference in San Francisco. \nBefore devoting herself to teaching exclusively\, Janet was the Program Director at IYISF. In 2001 she co-chaired the National Iyengar Yoga Conference in Pasadena where 850 students studied under Geeta S. Iyengar (BKS Iyengar’s daughter). \nHer style of teaching is faithful to the ancient tradition of yoga\, but is infused with love and light. Janet believes in sharing the joy that she has found in yoga with all who come in contact with her. This along with the technical skills she has accumulated over many years of personal practice\, study and teaching make her a much sought after teacher wherever she goes. \nABOUT THE YOGA BLESSINGS FUND:\nAdeline Yoga is committed to supporting diversity in our yoga community and social justice.

SUMMARY:Chit Chat: Introduction to Jyotish with Kim Kolibri - Free
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Jyotish\nJoin Kim Kolibri for a community chit chat\nMonday\, April 24th from 7:30 – 8:30 pm pst on zoom\nJyotish is the “science of light\,” a profound and sophisticated form of astrology originating in the ancient Vedic traditions of India. Jyotish can be a tremendous support to you it because it describes the planetary patterns that influence your life’s journey. By offering careful analysis and interpretation of cosmic influences\, Jyotish can help each of us understand our strengths and challenges so that we can make better decisions about our future. Jyotish offers practical remedies that alleviate areas of suffering\, giving us the confidence to manifest success\, happiness\, and harmony in all areas of our life. \nMany of us who work with Jyotish have experience its profundity and relevance on our life’s path as human beings\, Yoga practitioners\, and spiritual seekers.   For Kim\, Jyotish Astrology had provided the missing link in her personal healing journey and continues to be a source of priceless information and inspiration. \nWhy should you care? As students of Yoga\, we are continually looking to develop our sensitivity and awareness of our entire being. As we deepen\, our life experiences can sometimes be surprising\, cathartic  and perhaps a bit disorienting. Jyotish can help us integrate such insights and experiences by looking at how the planetary energies effect us\, both positively and negatively. \nBy being informed regarding ones personal birth chart as well as developing a conscious relationship with the planets as they transit\, we can learn to work with the planetary energies instead of being seized or swayed by them in undesirable ways. Furthermore\, it is possible to know optimal times for things such as healing\, new beginnings\, conclusions\, and so much more. With the guidance of a gifted Jyotish\, healing practices can be given to help amplify and support the good potentials – as well as lessen the impact of negative aspects. \nIn this chit-chat you will learn all about why Jyotish is so helpful.  Kim will introduce you to basic terminology and explain some of the differences about Western and Vedic Astrology. She will also mention some of the current astrological conditions that we are all facing. \n  \n \nYOU ARE INVITED TO THE CHIT-CHAT\nJoin us to learn more about Iyengar Yoga?  Got a question for the teachers?  Just want to hang out?  Our monthly community chit-chats are a time to get together less formally. \nThe yoga tradition offers us so much wisdom.  Even within Iyengar Yoga there is a universe of interesting topics to discuss.  Over a brief-one hour session we will take a deeper dive into one specific topic that we love. \nWHAT TO EXPECT\nOur monthly community chit-chats are a time to get together less formally. \nTUITION:\nFree! \nA recording will be sent to anyone who registers. \nWant to support these chit-chats a little more?  Send a donation via pay-pal here: PayPal.me/adelineyoga \n  \n \n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\n\nKim Kolibri (she/her) has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher since 2003.  She brings her whole heart and soul to the subject of YOG. As a teacher\, Kim is well skilled to teach a broad age range (young to elderly)\, as well as those with mild to moderate therapeutic issues. In this phase of her teaching\, Kim is inspired to share the foundational aspects of Iyengar Yoga – including pranayama\, applied Samkhya Philosophy\, and Mantra Sadhana – to all that want to learn. \nKim has been interested in Astrology since her early twenties and has explored both Western and Vedic approaches to the subject. After starting to study Patanjali and Vedic Philosophy with Gitte Bechsgaard in 2013\, it became apparent how integral Jyotish is to the Vedic paradigm. In 2020 Kim also began a 5 year Jaimini Scholar Jyotish program with Andrew Foss\, a renowned Jyotishi and Vedic Scholar. Since then\, her interest and study of this vast subject continues to deepen and touch all aspects of her life. Kim will eventually offer professional Jyotish services\, but for now she is happy to share some fundamental Jyotish concepts and answer basic questions with fellow yoga practitioners. \nKim has studied with the Iyengar family many times. She is a spiritual pilgrim by nature and has traveled extensively in India\, Nepal\, and Tibet in search of whatever is meant to be revealed. She is a longtime devotee of Sri Ramakrishna and an avid student of all things Vedic including Sanskrit\, Mantra Sadhana\, Vedic Philosophy and Jyotish Astrology. \nA long time member of the Iyengar Yoga community\, Kim helped to spearhead the creation of the IYNAUS Archives and served as the Director of Archives for many years. She also managed the BKS Iyengar Yoga Center of San Diego for over 10 years. Surely serious about the subject\, Kim is a friendly\, playful\, and encouraging teacher who loves to share the spark of Yoga in all possible ways. \n\n  \nOne hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us?
