SUMMARY:Tea & Ear Acupuncture: An Afternoon of Rest and Renewal with Meselech Haile Michael
DESCRIPTION:Ear Acupuncture and Tea with Meselech Haile Michael\nA community event offering rest and renewal  \nSunday July 26th 2 – 4 pm \nat our studio in South Berkeley \n\nJoin us for an afternoon of tea\, stillness\, and AcuDetox\, a simple ear acupuncture session designed to support your body’s natural capacity for regulation and restoration. The group AcuDetox session will be offered by Adeline Yoga student and experienced Acupuncture practitioner Meselech Haile Michael. \nWhat is AcuDextox?  It is a protocol developed by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) that uses five small needles placed in specific points on each ear to help calm the nervous system\, ease stress\, and cultivate emotional balance. Originally developed to support people in addiction recovery\, this widely used practice is now offered in a variety of settings—including hospitals\, community clinics\, mental health programs\, and wellness spaces—as a gentle way to encourage resilience and well-being. \nAfter sharing a delicious Ethiopian herbal tea together\, you’ll settle into a quiet\, restful environment while receiving the NADA protocol. There is no need to talk or process. Simply sit\, rest\, breathe\, and allow yourself to receive. \nThe five points used in the protocol support specific aspects of healing and renewal: \n• Sympathetic Point — This point celebrates the spirit of serenity. It encourages relaxation and helps settle the stress response\, inviting a sense of ease. \n• Shen Men — Often called the “Spirit Gate\,” this point supports emotional balance.  It helps calm the mind and ease anxiety. This point celebrates love\, compassion\, partnership\, and personal control. \n• Kidney Point — Associated with resilience and restoration\, helping to ease fear\, fatigue\, and depletion while supporting deep reserves of strength. \n• Liver Point — Supports the body’s natural detoxification processes and can help soften irritability and frustration\, encouraging growth and renewal. \n• Lung Point — Linked to breath\, grief\, and letting go\, this point supports release\, connection\, and trust in life’s unfolding. \nWhether you are navigating a challenging season\, seeking support for stress\, or simply longing for a moment of profound rest\, this afternoon together offers an opportunity to slow down\, reconnect\, and experience the healing power of stillness in community. \nAcuDetox sessions are simple and quiet. There’s no talking required – just a peaceful space to rest and reset. It’s a non-invasive\, medication-free way to feel more grounded. \nThis is a community offering for the benefit of all. \nNo prior experience with acupuncture is necessary. \n  \nRegister Here\n\n  \nBy donation: \nSliding scale: $20-$40 \nall funds raised will go to the Yoga Blessings Fund\, specifically to support yoga education for people of color. \nSave Your Spot\nYOUR HOST:\n \nMeselech Haile-Michael\, L.Ac.\, M.Ac.\, Diplomat of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Licensed Acupuncturist with nearly two decades of experience providing Five Elements and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis and customized treatment plans for patients of all ages with a wide range of physical and emotional conditions\, in both private practice and community health clinics. \nMeselech is a devoted student at Adeline Yoga\, so you can find her in class too. \nFind out more at https://www.khamoya.com/ \n

SUMMARY:Exploring Balance with Ramona
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 1st\nfrom 2 – 4:30 pm\nwith Ramona Atanacio\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn his book Light on Life\, B.K.S. Iyengar writes “Balance in the body is the foundation for balance in life.” Asana practice has shown us that stability requires balance\, and that it begins from learning to stand properly on one’s feet. With this stability\, one can extend and stand tall. \nInevitably\, change or challenge comes and then something shifts. The balance can begin to feel out of balance. How does one adjust? \nIn this workshop we will explore ways to support and challenge stability and balance\, and evenness of extension. We will do so through various categories of asana including standing\, seated\, lateral rotation\, abdominals\, jumpings\, inversions\, and restorative. This workshop will incorporate holding postures to build intelligence and sensitivity\, active movement and core strengthening\, as well as time for rest. Students should be prepared to find that balance is not just in the feet and legs but throughout the body\, and in the mind. \nThis fun afternoon workshop aims to further our understanding of balance in asana\, and how it can translate to balance in life. \nWho is this program for? It is best for students who have some yoga experience\, who regularly attend foundations or continuing beginner classes. \nIt is in-person at our Berkeley studio. \n  \nTuition: \n$45 – Early Bird Special – register by July 12th with code: BALANCE and save $10  \n$55 per person \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\n \nRamona Atanacio (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. She first began a daily practice in law school to support her busy and active lifestyle. Ramona’s love for the practice grew as she learned that the study of yoga\, and the discovery of the mind and body\, was limitless. This led her to deepen her study of yoga through an initial teacher training program and Ashtanga yoga\, which eventually led to Iyengar Yoga. She has found Iyengar Yoga to bring a much greater awareness and focus to her practice and life. \nRamona likes to teach an Iyengar Yoga class that is approachable\, invigorating\, and fun\, while also blending therapeutic and restorative elements of yoga. In her spare time\, she enjoys cooking Indian food in an Instant Pot and learning new dance moves. \n  \n \nCancellation policy for workshops: \nIf your cancellation request is received more than 72 hours before the event\, your workshop payment may be converted into Adeline Yoga account credit minus a $10 processing fee. To request a workshop cancellation\, please email support@adelineyoga.com. \n

SUMMARY:Chair Yoga: In-person with Shari Ser
DESCRIPTION:Chair Yoga with Shari Ser\nA monthly class in person\nOn a Sunday from 3 – 4:15 pm:\nAug 16\nOct 4\nNov 1\nDec 13 \nChairs offer a supported and accessible approach to yoga practice. Using a chair as a primary prop to bring stability\, clarity\, and ease to each pose. It is not a “lesser” practice—it is a precise and intelligent way of working that can deepen awareness and refine action. \nPostures are adapted so that students can experience the essential shape and intention of each asana with less strain. The chair helps to improve balance\, and create space in the body\, making the practice suitable for those recovering from injury\, navigating fatigue\, or simply seeking a more supported experience. \nAt the same time\, yoga with a chair can be surprisingly challenging. With the support of the chair\, we are able to stay longer\, observe more closely\, and work with greater sensitivity. This often reveals new pathways of strength\, mobility\, and understanding. \nThis class invites a steady\, attentive practice—one that meets you where you are and helps you move toward greater integration\, stability\, and ease. \nThis will be a covid cautious monthly yoga class.  Shari will bring high quality KN 95 masks for students that choose to wear one. Shari herself will be masked teaching the class. Masking is a way to continue to take care of our community especially our older and immunocompromised students who may be missing the availability of in person covid safer group classes. \nWe plan this class to happen once a month\, on a Sunday 3 – 4:15 pm.  Register for each one individually. \nWho is this class for? \nMobile people who want to use a chair as a primary prop to aid in a practice either due to age\, debility\, surgical recovery\, balance or chronic illness. You must be able to independently get up and down from the floor.  Some experience with yoga would be helpful. \n  \nTuition:\nUse your membership or class pass \nOr drop in for $30 \nREGISTER HERE\n  \nAbout your instructor:\n \nShari Ser (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher\, a physical therapist and certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT). She has been practicing yoga for over 35 years along with working as a physical therapist throughout that time. She loves teaching yoga with students who may feel uncomfortable in faster paced yoga classes and need more personalized attention. \nShari is a Level 1 CIYT\, a certified trainer in Dr Loren Fishman’s Yoga for Osteoporosis method and teaches an ongoing Yoga for Healthy bones class at Adeline Yoga currently on zoom. \nShari loves teaching anatomy classes for yoga students and teachers and believes we can deepen our practice and teaching of yoga through a good understanding of basic anatomy. She is a graduate of the Adeline Yoga Sadhana Studies Program. Her additional certifications include RYT 500\, E-RYT\, Shari is an avid believer of the practice and power of yoga throughout the years. She believes in its immense value in maintaining mobility\, independence and equanimity as we all age. \n

SUMMARY:The Harvest of Practice: The Dynamic Journey Into Backbends with Anneke Faas
DESCRIPTION:The Harvest of Practice: The Dynamic Journey Into Backbends with Anneke Faas\nSunday August 30th from 1 – 4 pm\nJoin us at the studio in Berkeley  \nLate summer is a season of fullness—a time for harvest. In the same way\, our backbend practice matures through consistent effort\, careful attention\, and intelligent action. \nIn this workshop\, we will explore the essential elements that create freedom and power in backbends: strong and responsive legs\, mobility in the shoulders and thoracic spine\, lift through the chest\, and clarity in the action of the spine. Working progressively through a range of back extensions\, we will discover how each pose contributes to a larger journey. \nAs the practice ripens\, we will explore the preparations that lead toward dropping back into backbends. More than simply a dramatic movement\, dropbacks ask us to integrate strength\, precision\, confidence\, and trust. They invite us to step beyond the familiar while remaining connected to our foundation. \nWhether you are refining your understanding of backbends or beginning to explore the path toward dropbacks\, this workshop will offer practical tools\, thoughtful progressions\, and a deeper appreciation for the transformative potential of a backbend practice. \nAppropriate for Intermediate Iyengar Yoga students who are ready to deepen their understanding of backbends and explore Level 2–3 asanas in a supportive and focused environment. \n  \nTuition: \n$60  – Early Bird Special – $15 off with code: HARVEST at checkout\, code expires on August 9th. \n$75 per person \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Register HERE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\n \nAnneke Faas (she/her) is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with over two decades of teaching experience. SUMMARY:Progression of Teaching: Professional Development for Yoga Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Progression of Teaching\nA weekend of teacher development\nOctober 23 – 25\, 2026 in-person\nOur weekend together is your opportunity to boost your teaching skills within a supportive community of colleagues.   Our focus will be on helping method. \nThis session of Progression of Teaching will specifically focus on observation and correction skills such as how to hone our powers of observation.  What to observe and how to interpret what we observe?  And how to act based on what we observe?  For Yoga Philosophy we will take a deep look at the kleshas\, how to work with these afflictions in both our teaching and as Sadhakas. \nOver the three days\, we will reflect on the balancing act required for effective teaching.  Teaching Iyengar Yoga requires you to help individual students while moving the entire classroom forward.  This requires knowledge of the asana you are teaching\, an easily accessible toolkit of modifications and corrections AND strong decision making skills regarding what you say and what you don’t say. \nOver the three days\, you will consider your own existing strengths and uncover the skills that are ready for maturation.  You will get more experience in the well-timed application of instruction\, observation\, correction and demonstration. \n  \nThe schedule \nFriday: \n8:30 – 11:30 am:  This includes a public class + time afterwards to discuss the experience including thought process and teaching skills \n1:30 – 3:45 pm :  Teacher education \nSaturday: \n1 – 5:30 pm:  Teacher Education \nSunday: \n8:30 – 11:15 am: This includes a public class + de-brief of the thought process and teaching skills \n1:15 – 4:15 pm:  Teacher Education \nYou will receive an optional homework assignment.  This type of svadhaya is a central part of the Progression of Teaching weekend because it creates an auspicious beginning for the program\,  gives you an opportunity to reflect on what you already know while developing new knowledge\, and gives you time to connect with Heather.  Please register by March so you are able to complete the assignment. \nProgression of Teaching is open to anyone who is trained as an Iyengar Yoga teacher. \nTUITION\nRegular rate: $274 per person \nScholarships are available; email info@adelineyoga.com for details. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore about Progression of Teaching:\n  \n“It is the duty of the teacher to know what to teach\,\nwhy to teach and how much to teach.” – BKS Iyengar\nProgression of Teaching is a cornerstone of our teacher support\, offering an opportunity for you to develop your personal sadhana and teaching skills. Our weekend gathers are forum from which to build enduring relationships with peers and teachers. We offer support to teachers at any phase of their teaching and career exploration\, gathering twice a year. \nTeaching yoga in an effective way is a very complex endeavor.  It can be so difficult to know what to teach\, why to teach and how much to teach whether you are teaching online\, in-person or hybrid\, with masks and without masks\, across diverse venues including public classes in a studio\, private lessons at home\, corporate venues\, college campuses and in community centers.  Our students have a huge diversity of urgent needs and interests.  That is why our time to come together is so valuable.  It is a time to be with your friends and colleagues and to learn from each other. \n \nDuring our time together you will: \n\nEnhance your understanding of poses from Level 1 all the way to Level 3 syllabus.\nPractice teaching to build your skills and confidence working with a range of bodies and situations.\nDevelop confidence in sequencing these poses so that you can progress your own practice.\nUse the teaching skills at your level to convey the essence of Yoga.\nDive deeper into the source materials.\nGet feedback on your own teaching.\n\nOptional homework is given prior to each meeting.  This is your way to study the syllabi in a focused way and get feedback on both the required knowledge and theoretical aspects of Iyengar Yoga.  Doing the homework – and receiving personal feedback on it – is a central part of every Progression of Teaching gather. \nWhat are the thorny poses you want to look at? Doubts to discuss? Bring your questions. Participants will get feedback on their teaching and gain confidence working with their students in a variety of situations. \nPeople who are traveling from far distances\, here is more information about our location and favorite places to stay and eat. \n  \nREGISTER HERE \n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nHeather Haxo Phillips is Director of Adeline Yoga and a certified Level 3 Iyengar yoga instructor (Senior Intermediate 1). Her additional certifications include: Certified Yoga Therapist (c-IAYT)\, Relax and Renew restorative yoga teacher and Yoga Alliance E-500 level instructor. SUMMARY:Vitality with Stephanie Quirk
DESCRIPTION:The Energetic Embodiment\nVitality: the Work of Bringing “Life”\nLooking at the health of the vital organic body including heart\, lungs\, pancreas and thyroid \nApril 24 – 27\, 2027 \nplus one post-series session via zoom for assimilation & application of material \n  \nREGISTER HERE FOR THE WAITLIST \nWe will notify you when registration opens this fall \n \n\n \n\n\n \n  \nIn this course we will explore Vitality\, focusing on the health of the vital organic body: heart\, lungs\, pancreas\, and thyroid. \nThis is module 4 of a seven-part Yoga Therapy training “Seeing & Understanding from the Base” designed by Stephanie Quirk\, following Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar’s progression of learning\, from the outer\, seeable form to the inner\, more subtle aspects of the body\, mind\, and senses of perception. \nThis program will be an invaluable professional development opportunity for Iyengar Yoga teachers and trainees as well as experienced practitioners wishing to deepen their practice and understanding of yoga and its therapeutic applications. As yoga students each of us needs to be able to solve problems in our own practice. \nThe approach starts from the participants own practice\, showing how familiar asanas can be modified to address specific needs. Each part of the series focuses on practical adaptations to support students facing common difficulties in their yoga practice. \nThe emphasis is on learning the asana from the inside out\, by understanding its internal experience—tone\, intensity\, form—and how elemental factors—gravity\, balance\, space\, movement and stability—change according to the arrangement and adaptation of each asana. \nWho Can Attend?\nThis course is open to: \n\nCertified Iyengar Yoga teachers\nIyengar Yoga teacher trainees/mentees\nExperienced Iyengar Yoga practitioners\n\nWhat’s covered each day?\nDay 1: the beginning of study\, observation and investigation through the categories of asanas taught in a general class for the subject / topic being explored. \nDay 2: Continued practice in the morning. In the afternoon the focus is on the very important aspect of observation. \nDay 3: Learning specific adjustments and adaptations for the students that require help. Adjustments can be carried out for a variety of reasons\, to enable\, to correct\, and to educate the student\, so that the pose works more directly and the effects are accessible for the student. \nDay 4: Adjustments and adaptations continue and the introduction to understanding the purpose and correct usage of props. Props as with adaptations can be for enabling\, correcting and educating. They can alleviate situations difficult to bear as well as provide a portal for the student to understand their inner body. \n  \nAbout Stephanie Quirk \nStephanie Quirk is recognised internationally as a leader in the field of Yoga Therapeutics.\nShe spent over 20 years living in Pune\, India\, studying and working closely with the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI). During that time\, she assisted in the medical classes\, gaining deep and practical experience in applying asana and pranayama therapeutically. \n  \nQuestions you may have:\nDo I have to attend the whole workshop?\nWe highly recommend attending the full 4 days to get the most benefit. The workshop is designed to build gradually\, and full participation allows Stephanie to better understand your level of practice and understanding\, and offer more tailored guidance. It’s also a valuable way to deepen your practice and support your overall well-being. \nIf there is space\, we may allow registration for one or two days only. Single sessions can only be booked for Day 1.\nOther options are: Day 1 + 2 \, Day 1 + 2 + 3. \nWhat is this full series?\nThe full series consists of 7 parts: \nPart 1 – The Karmendriyas 1 – The Outer Body in Locomotion: Feet\, Knees & Hips\nPart 2 – The Karmendriyas 2 – The Outer Body that Offers & Holds: Arms\, Shoulders & Upper Spine\nPart 3 – The Root (Mula): Lower Spine\, Pelvis & Sacrum\nPart 4 – The Energetic embodiment 1 – Vitality: The Work of Bringing “Life” (Utrecht\, 24–27 September 2026)\nPart 5 – The Energetic embodiment 2 – The Sustainer: Digestion\, Absorption & Elimination\nPart 6 – Acquiring the state of balance and harmony – Systemic Imbalance: Endocrine and Nervous System Health\nPart 7 – Listening – Seeing – Realising: The Senses of Perception and the Mind \nIt is not necessary to have completed earlier modules. \nEach module is a separate subject\, they don’t need to be taken in order. \nThis year\, Stephanie will do an American tour teaching different parts in Los Angeles\, Dallas and New York.  If you are interested to see recordings of parts not offered in the United States\, these are available via Stephanie’s website – as well as many more recordings of classes and workshops by Stephanie. \nWhen can I sign up?  We will open registration this fall.  At that time we will provide all the necessary detail including class timings\, tuition and logistical support to help our out-of-town colleagues. \nWe welcome out-of-town colleagues!  Oakland (Oak) is the most convenient airport as its an easy 20-min car ride or slightly longer metro ride. San Francisco (SFO) is also a fine airport option\, about 1 hr by metro or car.  There are plenty of AirBnB around for accommodations.  We do have a kitchenette and gardens where you can eat your lunch and enjoy your tea.  We love our town and will be happy to make suggestions for restaurants\, hiking\, museums and other adventures.  Partners and other +1 really enjoy their time if they accompany you. \nYou do not need to bring props.  Our studio is fully equipped. \nHave more questions?
