SUMMARY:Community Event: Spring Swap & Potluck
DESCRIPTION:Spring Swap & Potluck: A Community Wide Event with Adeline Yoga\nSaturday\, May 9 | 3:30–6:30 pm\nJoin us for an afternoon of sharing\, gathering\, and lighthearted exchange with the Adeline Yoga community. \nBring gently loved clothing\, books\, or yoga props to swap\, enjoy a springtime potluck\, and take part in our AYS Yoga Blessings Tombola. \nCome for the whole afternoon or drop in for a portion—everything is designed to be easy\, welcoming\, and fun. \n  \nSchedule\nSwap: 3:30 – 5 pm \nPotluck: 5 – 6:30 pm \n  \nI’ve never been to a clothing swap. What should I expect?\nA swap is a simple and joyful way to exchange items you no longer need for something new-to-you. It is so fun to trade gently worn or unwanted clothing and other items with others – and try on clothes you NEVER thought you would ever wear. Certainly it is a chance to clear space\, reduce waste\, and discover unexpected treasures—all within your community. \nWe have done several swaps in the past\, and many of our favorite clothes were found there. You never know what you might find for yourself. It’s a win-win for everyone: clean out your closet\, divert items from being down-cycled\, and go home with free\, new treasures. \nWhat can I bring? \n\nClothing is the main feature\nAccessories\, scarves\, shoes\, bags\, hats\, jewelry\nBooks\nYoga props\nTarot decks or other meaningful items that you think might resonate with the Adeline community\n\nThink of items that are in good condition but no longer serve you—things ready for a second life. \n  \nGuidelines for swapping \n\nBring up to 10 items\nItems should be clean\, undamaged\, and usable\nPlease leave your bras\, underwear\, and swimsuits at home\nWear clothing that makes it easy to try things on (leggings work well)\nBring a bag to carry your new finds\nUnclaimed items can either be taken home or donated – we’ll coordinate a donation drop afterward\n\nDrop-off your donated items \nYou can drop-off your donated items starting Wednesday May 6th.  Please make sure all items get to the studio by 1 pm on Saturday May 9th.  We will need that time to build displays worthy of your items. \nI don’t have anything to swap—can I still come? \nYes! Please do come! Bring yourself!  Bring your friends.  Bring bags to carry home what you find – and what you win in the Tombola. \n  \nWhat is the Tombola?\nIYKYK.  It is the best. game. ever. \nBut most Americans have never played it. \nIn short\, a tombola is a communal\, festive game of chance.  Think of it as a playful mix between a raffle and bingo where you win great stuff. \nIts celebratory and festive.  Don’t be surprised to hear yourself shrieking when you win from a curated collection of offerings—experiences\, items\, and gifts donated by our community. \n$5 per ticket\, you will be entered to win.  Expect twists and turns.  Discounts and discoveries.  We plan to run the tombola for both the swap and potluck. \nAll proceeds support the AYS Yoga Blessings Fund. \n\nTell me about the potluck\nWe’ll gather to eat at 5 pm. \nBring something vegetarian to share – Iyengar Yoga potlucks are soooo yummy.  Bring something you would enjoy eating.  Main courses\, appetizers\, salads\, desserts or beverages are wonderful. \nLabeling ingredients helps everyone. \nOk to simply come hungry without bringing anything:  staying to help clean up is a great way to support the potluck. \nPlease bring your own plate and utensils to help reduce waste. \n  \nRegister Now\n  \nWhat is the AYS Yoga Blessings Fund? \nThe Yoga Blessings Fund offers partial and full scholarships for Sadhana Studies\, classes and workshops.  Your donations support members of our community who may be navigating financial hardship and know how important yoga is. \nWant to volunteer? \nWe’d love your help.\nEmail support@adelineyoga.com to get involved. \nDonate to the tombola? \nWe would love donations of handmade goodies\, whether it be baked goods or a piece of art.  If you have a service to donate thats great too.\nEmail support@adelineyoga.com to tell us more.

SUMMARY:When Yoga Becomes Yours: A chit-chat with Heather Haxo Phillips
DESCRIPTION:At the Threshold: When Yoga Becomes Yours\n\nA conversation for students seeking a deeper relationship with practice\nwith Heather Haxo Phillips\nfree \nSunday\, March 29 from 3 – 4:15 pm pacific \nin-person and on zoom \n\n\n\n\n  \nWe all arrive at yoga for different reasons—relief from pain or stress\, curiosity about new ways to move\, or a quiet longing for change. In the beginning testing out Iyengar Yoga\, we are not quite sure what is going on\, but we like it.  We come to class\, follow the guidance\, do the work and receive what’s offered. It is fun.  It feels good.  And so we keep coming back. \n\nOver time\, consistency becomes a practice itself. Life’s twists and turns test our commitment\, yet we keep showing up.  Coming to class again and again builds a valuable steadiness—in the body\, mind\, and the spirit.  Even when life is busy\, unpredictable\, or demanding\, we find ways to get to class. That commitment alone shapes us. We feel more at home in our bodies\, more resourced emotionally\, more grounded in ourselves. \n\nMany practitioners remain in this place for years or a lifetime as deeply devoted class-goers who touch the edges of yoga’s depth through workshops\, events and even retreats. \nAnd then\, for some people\, a different pull arrives: \nA threshold moment. \nYou might feel a pull toward a more personal\, engaged practice—a desire not only to do the poses\, but to understand why we practice\, how to adapt your practice to your life’s changes\, and how to bring yoga into your daily life. This could be called a threshold moment: a desire to move from being guided in class to being an active participant in your own practice. \nThis shift opens the door to a deeper\, more personal relationship with yoga.  Indeed\, crossing offers you a relationship with yoga where you take ownership\, explore deeply\, and bring the practices more fully into your life. \n\nIn this intimate conversation\, Heather will share her own journey of crossing that threshold—from dedicated student to active practitioner.  We will chat about how that shift marked a transformation in her practice and her life. \nTogether\, we’ll explore what this threshold moment might look like for you\, and how to take the next steps—whether that’s developing a home practice\, diving deeper into study\, or exploring a longer commitment such as Sadhana Studies. \nThis will be an interactive session.  Whether you  join us in-person or on zoom\, please be there live.  Our activities will be done in small and large groups.  It will not be the same experience watching a recording. \nYou’ll leave with clarity\, inspiration\, and concrete next steps to continue your yoga journey with intention and curiosity. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE: In-Person REGISTER HERE: Online\nWHAT TO EXPECT\nThe yoga tradition offers us so much wisdom.  Even within Iyengar Yoga there is a universe of interesting topics to discuss.  Over an informal hour together\, we will take a deeper dive into one specific topic that we love. \nWe welcome everyone whether you are brand new to Adeline Yoga or have been an Iyengar Yoga practitioner for decades. \nOur  chit-chats are a fun time for community conversations together.  For many years\, we have gathered at the Iyengar Institute in Pune to chit-chat with Geeta Iyengar\, Sunita Iyengar and now Abhijata and other RIMYI teachers.  We treasure these times together and enjoy bringing this tradition to Adeline Yoga.  It is a fun time to engage in stimulating conversation around important topics that relate to the greater Yoga tradition. \nThe purpose of our gathers are to: \n\nExcite and inspire aspiring and current yoga students everywhere\nGive students access to our outstanding faculty\, allowing them to get to know their teachers in new ways\nExpose students to facets of Iyengar Yoga that they might know know about\nGive teachers an opportunity to talk about topics they love\n\nTUITION:\nFree! \nA recording will be sent to anyone who registers. \nWant to support these chit-chats a little more?  Send a donation via pay-pal here: PayPal.me/adelineyoga \nOne hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nFirst time on Zoom with us? Check out our tip sheet! Our tips will help you get ready for your first class with us. \n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\nHeather Haxo Phillips (she/her) is Director of Adeline Yoga and a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Senior Intermediate level (Level 3). \nAmong the highest certified Iyengar teachers in the East Bay\, her additional certifications include: Certified Yoga Therapist (c-IAYT)\, Relax and Renew restorative yoga teacher and Yoga Alliance E-500 level instructor. She has specialized yoga therapy training which includes scoliosis\, musculoskeletal injuries and pain management. \nOne of her asana-related specialties is women’s health. Heather has a deep commitment to the ancient teachings which includes mantra sadhana (chanting) and Sanskrit\, pranayama and yoga philosophy. You can expect to find aspects of this in all of Heather’s classes. \nHeather deepens her own practice by studying regularly with senior Iyengar teachers\, Sanskrit and Vedic scholars\, and the Iyengar family in Pune. \nHeather is past President of the Board of Directors for the Iyengar Yoga Association of Northern California and an active volunteer for the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. SUMMARY:The Power of Practice: 5 Day Pranayama Immersion
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Practice: \n5 Day Yoga Pranayama Immersion\nwith Heather Haxo Phillips \nMonday – Friday: Feb 9 – 13\n7 – 8 am PST each day \nvia Zoom \nPranayama is a deeply transformative practice on all levels\, physical and emotional. It is your time to find deep quiet and expansiveness inside.  Indeed\, this type of rest can be a sacred experience.  A daily pranayama practice is your time to be with yourself and see whats there. \nYou receive the most benefits of pranayama when you practice consistently. It does take discipline\, dedication and a a baseline of knowledge to make the most of a personal pranayama practice. Yet the benefits of pranayama are incredible! \nBeing with a community of people committed to the same endeavor is one of the ways to inspire and direct your practice.  And\, winter is a wonderful time to an immersion like this: darker mornings create a quiet and contemplative atmosphere. Carving out this time for inward minded study will most certainly help you build your energy stores before the spring season begins. \nJoin us for 5 days of pranayama in a row.  You will graduate from the Immersion with more confidence\, ready to take your practice to the next level and receive enhanced benefits! \nThe program is Monday through Friday 7 – 8 am PST each day.  Thursday we will go later so that there is time for question and answers. \nThe immersion is part of the Anusthana program\, so it is specifically designed for people who have already received teachings on pranayama.  Additional participants are invited to register:  It is best for students who already have at least three years of studying asana and have had previous practice of pranayama with a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. \n  \nREGISTER NOW\n  \nOver the week\, Heather will teach the art of reclining and sitting pranayama including use of props\, body awareness and somatic sensation.  We will focus our studies of pranayama looking through the lens of ashtanga yoga.  As the 4th aspect of ashtanga yoga\, pranayama practices rest on the foundation of yama\, niyama and asana.  They also prepare the sadhaka for the deep quiet involved with pratyahara based practices including dharana. \nBKS Iyengar’s Light on Pranayama will be our guide and source of inspiration. Pranayama creates quiet and calm in the practitioner\, helping to kindle the flame of intelligence and a relationship with the divine. \n“Just as a breeze clears the ashes and smoke\, so the divine spark in the sadhaka shines out when – by the practice of pranayama – his mind becomes free of impurities and fit for meditation” \n– BKS Iyengar\, Light on Pranayama \nIf you are new to pranayama\, this is not the program for you.  Please join our pranayama class on Wednesdays with Kim Kolibri. Click here to book your class. \nRECORDINGS:\nWe plan that this immersion will be recorded.  Every registrant will receive access to the recording for one month.  If you cannot attend live\, you can pre-register and receive the recordings. \nPlease note: All of the recordings will be sent in one email at the end of the immersion. \nTUITION:\n5 Day Immersion: $125\nIf you cannot attend every day\, you can register and use the recording. \nScholarships are available – we have several spots!  Please apply here. \n  \n  \nREGISTER NOW \n  \n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\n\nHeather Haxo Phillips (she/her) is Director of Adeline Yoga and a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Senior Intermediate level (Level 3). As one learns asana and pranayama\, one learns to recognize and appreciate the connections between body parts which often go unnoticed. \nIn this workshop\, we will start with the known and go towards the unknown. Specifically\, we will look at foundational poses and their actions. Then we will proceed toward more subtle actions and interactions as a means to accessing poses that are often thought to be “intermediate” or “advanced”. \nOver two days we will explore connections and the act of “connecting”. This workshop will use both asana and yoga philosophy to shed light on the gross and the subtle\, what is near and what is far. We will investigate physical actions\, breath and mental involvement in ways that help us move from Level 1 Foundational poses toward the more intermediate and advanced poses on the Level 2 and Level 3 syllabi. \nThis program is geared toward those with at least 1 year of consistent practice of Iyengar Yoga. If you have injuries or conditions you know how to work with\, you are most welcome. It is not appropriate for those with serious therapeutic needs. Iyengar Yoga teachers and teachers in training will find this weekend extremely helpful. \nWho is this program for? Iyengar Yoga practitioners with at least 1 year of study.  Aspiring teachers and CIYT will be especially interested as knowledge of the vayus is required on the level 2 syllabus. \nThis workshop will be held in-person at our studio in Berkeley. \nComing from out of town?  Great! For people who are traveling from far distances\, here is more information about our location and favorite places to stay and eat. \nTuition: \n$210 Regular Rate \n  \nREGISTER HERE \n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\n \n\nMarla Apt (she / her) began studying with BKS Iyengar\, Geeta and Prashant Iyengar in India 30 years ago. Her interest in yoga therapy led her to design research studies on yoga for mental health and to form Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics\, a non-profit organization working to further knowledge of and accessibility to yoga’s healing applications. \nMarla was highlighted by Yoga Journal Magazine as one of twenty-one yoga teachers helping to shape the future of yoga and has been a writer contributor for international yoga magazines and journals. \nMarla served the yoga community in various roles including President of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States\, creator of ethical guidelines for U.S. certified teachers\, member of national certification and yoga therapy committees and teaching standards advisor for Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists. \n

SUMMARY:Auspicious Beginnings: New Year's Day Practice
DESCRIPTION:Auspicious Beginnings: New Year’s Day Practice\nJanuary 1st  from 10 am – 1 pm PST\nJoin Online OR in-person at our Berkeley Studio\n  \nJoin us to celebrate a new beginning. \nAs we step into the freshness of New Year’s Day\, this workshop invites you to set the tone for your year ahead. With the beginning of any new phase of life\, it is important to pause and look inward.  When we take time to contemplate our path\, we can acknowledge the present\, shed what no longer serves us\, and welcome the aspirations that call to us. \nGuided by the practices of Iyengar Yoga\, this annual gathering creates an auspicious space for exploration and self-expression.  Our session will begin with chanting and an invigorating asana practice\, leading to an extended savasana\, mindful breath observation\, and meditation. The day will culminate in shared moments over homemade Chai and sweets.  Heather will have just returned from an extended stay in India so there will be lots of personal stories. \nDuring our time together\, we will draw inspiration from the revered deity Ganesh\, the elephant-headed symbol of new beginnings and remover of obstacles.  We’ll invoke his wisdom and guidance as we begin the new year. In our practice\, we will use this inspiration to clear our path and foster intentions for a smooth year ahead. \nRenewal isn’t just a personal act.  When we take time to reset our nervous system and get grounded — our powerful energy has a positive impact on our connections to family and community. Renewal is an opportunity for collective revitalization\, rooted in our own relationship with ourselves and the worlds around us. SUMMARY:Library Hour: Yoga and Alignment with Heather Haxo Phillips
DESCRIPTION:Yoga & Alignment\nA community chit chat + celebrating our new library\nwith Heather Haxo Phillips \nOctober 8th 7 – 8 pm\nYou are invited to join us as we kick off a new program:  library hour. \nWe will gather in-person at Adeline Yoga for the inaugural offering of this program. \nOur discussion will revolve around alignment.  What is alignment in a yoga context?  How is an understanding of alignment useful in our lives? \nIyengar Yoga is indeed known for being the original “alignment yoga.”  But the concept of alignment is as old as the Vedas.  Heather will kick off our library house with a short talk highlighting the history of alignment\, as explained by several of the books in our library.  Yoga and Alignment by Gitte Bechsgaard and Gillian McCann will be the base text we use.  Heather will also draw upon sources directly from the Upanishads and writings by Prashant Iyengar. \nLibrary Hour is a vision of our students\, that we would use the books in our library as a focal point for informally gathering to learn more about yoga.  Indeed\, in todays modern world\, it is unique that a yoga studio would have dedicated space to a library.  But Adeline Yoga is a yoga shala\, a center for learning and self-discovery. \nThe program is being launched by Heather on October 8th.  We anticipate offering periodic gathers\, perhaps every month or two. \nFree and open to the public \nPre-registration is required. \nPlease arrive 10 minutes before the start of the event.  Library Hour will start on time. \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n  \nWHAT IS LIBRARY HOUR?\nA free one-hour event for the community.  This is a time for our teachers to share something that inspires them. \nThe intention of library hour is: \n\nTo celebrate the teachings of Yoga\, giving you access to new texts.\nBring our library into the community and encourage use of the reading room.\nHave space for honest conversation and reflection.\nGive space for spontaneous conversation in our lives.\n\nThe library hour is your opportunity to have in-depth discussion about a book and topic with Adeline teachers. \n  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nHeather Haxo Phillips is Director of Adeline Yoga and a certified Level 3 Iyengar yoga instructor (Senior Intermediate 1). SUMMARY:Fullness in Action: A Beginners’ Iyengar Yoga Immersion with Anneke Faas
DESCRIPTION:Fullness in Action: A Beginner’s Immersion\nA 3-Day Immersion Into Iyengar Yoga\nwith Anneke Faas\nSeptember 19 – 21\nFriday : 5:30 – 7:30 pm \nSaturday : 2 – 5 pm + dinner and a movie (going until about 7pm) \nSunday: 1 – 4 pm \nJoin us for an enriching weekend of yoga exploration – especially for beginners.\n  \n“Let us be full in whatever posture it is we are doing\, just as we should be full in whatever we do in our lives.” — B.K.S. Iyengar\, Light on Life \nThis weekend immersion invites beginner students to explore how the practice of yoga can expand our awareness—of body\, breath\, and being. We will look at principles of extension and expansion\, learning when to stretch beyond our usual habits to find both strength and release. \nYou can expect: \n\nDaily Yoga Practices focusing on the foundational poses in the Iyengar approach: Including active asana (postures)\, with time for breath\, conversation\, chanting\, philosophical reflection and community connection.\nPhilosophy Discussions: A beginner-friendly introduction to key yoga concepts and their connection to Iyengar Yoga through the book Light on Life by BKS Iyengar.\nSaturday Night Fun: A meal together and a short\, inspiring movie—perfect for fostering community.\nPersonalized Approach: You’ll learn in a way that’s accessible\, even if you’re still finding your feet in yoga.\n\nThe group practices\, meal and time within the studio community will provide you with tremendous support and introspection.  Over the three days\, you will experience more space and expansion—inside the body and out in our lives. \nThis is for students who are relatively new to Iyengar Yoga\, with less than two years of Iyengar Yoga experience. Whether this is your first immersion or you are continuing to explore Iyengar Yoga\, you’ll be guided with care and curiosity.  If you’re eager to deepen your exploration of yoga in an active and engaging way\, this is for you! \nIt’s okay to be stiff or unfamiliar with some poses! You’ll be supported in a space where you can grow and learn at your own pace. \nIt will be held in person at Adeline Yoga Studio in Berkeley\, CA \n**Your dietary preferences and restrictions will be accommodated to ensure a shared meal that resonates with all participants. \nREGISTER NOW! \n \nWhat students think of these Immersions:\n“I loved our immersion weekend! I felt like the pace was just right… Anneke listened closely to us and adapted her teaching to address and embody our questions. She’s also such a bright and engaging spirit that she helps the rest of us stay engaged and curious. It felt like a safe place to learn and also to “stretch” – try new things. I appreciated learning more about the philosophical roots of Iyengar yoga as well as the founder. And the food was delicious! Overall\, this was a wonderful community experience.” – V. C. \n“As a new student…it was all upside for me. I learned a lot!  I really enjoyed the group and energy – and the chanting..Adeline Yoga offers great teaching and a great community.  The studio brings a lot of light to many people. ”\n– Jeff J. \n“My body still feels great\, which goes hand in hand with Anneke’s teaching and pacing of the practices.” – Hallie B. \n \nTuition:\n$249 for the entire weekend. SUMMARY:Anusthana: Explore Iyengar Yoga Through the 8-Fold Path
DESCRIPTION:Anusthana: The Dedicated Practices of Iyengar Yoga\nSeptember 2025 – April 2026\nThrough the dedicated practices of yoga\, we can experience our own wisdom radiating in its beauty. \nThink about your experience emerging from a good asana practice:  you feel clear\, refreshed and radiant.  That is jnana diptihi – the experience of your wisdom radiating in its glory.  These effects of our Iyengar Yoga practices are profound – they help us to become more settled\, wise and radiant. \nLet us explore this together! \nYou are invited to join us for Anusthana\, an 8-month program exploring the 8-limbs of yoga.   \nOur tools in this exploration will be the wide range practices available to dedicated practitioners of Iyengar Yoga:  asana\, pranayama\, chanting\, meditation\, Ayurveda and the study of yoga philosophy in sangha. \nAnusthana is a continuation of our cherished Sadhana Studies program\, offering an opportunity for those who wish to carry their study and sadhana even further. It will build on the foundation of what was established in Sadhana Studies\, inviting further explorations for your personal practice\, reflection\, and integration.   \nHeather Haxo Phillips will be your program leader\, with Michael Lucey\, Kelly Sobanski and Sandy Lamerson providing additional teachings. \nPatanjali’s Yoga Sutra 2.28 and other sutras from the Sadhana Pada that will be the foundation around which our studies evolve.  Through the 8-months we will study in-depth the “astau angangi” or 8-limbs of yoga including yama\, niyama\, asana\, pranayama\, pratyahara and the inner limbs of meditation\, concentration and samadhi.  \nFrom an asana perspective\, Guruji’s Intro II and Jr Intermediate 1 syllabus will be our guide.  Serious practitioners\, those studying to become teachers and existing CIYT will have an opportunity to dive deep into the progressive nature of asana so that we may fully explore what “angani” or constituent parts really means.  The Sadhana Studies’ Year 2 syllabus will provide home practice sequences as your base. From there\, you will also learn more about how to personalize your home practice for your specific needs. Over our time together\, you will be amazed to learn more about how the asanas relate to each other\, and how they relate to us as human beings.  \nThis program will continue your studies of holistic health through Ayurveda\, with additional focus on deep rest\, including the variety of healing savasanas\, reclining pranayama and building up to sitting pranayama. \nWith Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras as our main source of study\, we will be supported by reflections from the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. These texts – and their commentaries – will develop our experience of the 8-fold path and help us delve deeper into the key foundational concepts of yoga philosophy including: \n\nThe definitions of Yoga\nYoga Ethics\nThe Kleshas\nThe Gunas \nKarma Theory\n\nWho you learn with makes a huge impact on what you learn.  So\, small group peer discussions will be an integral part of your studies between our in-person sessions.  Discussion prompts and journaling exercises will be provided each month to guide your studies and self-reflection. \nRegistration Closed\n \n\nProgram Components:\nThis program weaves both in-studio time and zoom learning to allow you both in-person time and the practicality of being in your house. \n\nWednesday 5:45 to 7:15 pm pacific time – asana class on zoom every week\nShort Reading assignments\n1-on-1 and small group peer discussions between monthly meetings\nHome practice using sequences provided for you\nTarget pose practice sessions on Mondays (zoom) and Fridays (in-person) 6:30 – 7:45 am PST \nMonthly gatherings either in-person at Adeline Yoga or on zoom\n\nWho is this course for? SUMMARY:Yoga Anticolonial Philosophy Book Group with Willow Hagge
DESCRIPTION:Anticolonial Philosophy Book Group\nwith Willow Hagge\n4 sessions on zoom \nMondays 5 – 6 pm \nJune 16 / June 30 /July 14 /July 28 \n  \nPatanjali’s Yoga Sutras define a unique and marvelous moral and ethical philosophy along with offering many other beautiful concepts. Dr. Shyam Ranganthan\, a Canadian Philosophy Professor at York University\, has done remarkable work to read the Yoga Sutras as a Philosopher. He shows how the Yoga Sutras lay out a path for how to be a person who thrives and is self-governing\, while making space for others to do the same. \nDr. Ranganthan wrote a great book for practitioners of postural yoga to explore the sutras through this lens.  It is titled Yoga Anticolonial Philosophy.  We are excited to create a book group to read and discuss his work. \nAs participants in the book group\, we will engage with his text through a variety of activities\, discussions\, and reflections. This group will also focus on identifying and disrupting patterns of white-supremacy\, colonization\, racism\, and trans/queer phobia as they arise. The experiences and voices of marginalized folks will be centered\, because ahimsa\, which can be translated as disrupting systemic injustice\, is the first part of the first limb of yoga and is central to this work. \nLearn more about our featured book here: https://yogaphilosophy.com/product/yoga-anticolonial-philosophy/ \nWho is this book group for? This group is for those who have spent time with the Yoga Sutras\, are actively practicing Yoga\, and who are willing to engage with a dense (but very rewarding!) text. This group is not appropriate for people studying the Yoga Sutras for the first time. \nThis event is being organized by Willow as part of a service-learning project from Sadhana Studies. \nTuition: \nFree \nParticipants encouraged to make a donation to the yoga blessings fund here. \n  \nClick to register your interest in joining\nI’m Interested\n  \nABOUT THE BOOK CLUB LEADER\nWillow Hagge (they/them) has been practicing Iyengar Yoga since 2004 and is currently apprenticing to become an Iyengar Yoga teacher. They have completed the Sadhana Studies program twice\, and have a 100 hour Yoga Philosophy certification with Dr. Ranganathan. \nWillow is also a visual arts teacher\, sewist\, parent\, trans person\, and artist. \n\n

SUMMARY:Strength with Michael Lucey
DESCRIPTION:Strength\nwith Michael Lucey \nMarch 1 from 2 – 4:30 pm.\nHybrid: at our Berkeley studio or via Zoom online\nStrength: How many kinds of it are there? What kinds of strength do we need as we advance in our practice and in life? How do we acquire it (them)? \nWe sometimes use expressions like brute strength or quiet strength — neither of which seems much like the other. \nWhat about core strength? Or what about what physical trainers call agile strength? Or strength of character or strength of will? \nWhich ones do we need to do Chaturanga Dandasana or to stay in Salamba Sarvangasana for ten minutes? \nHow are the different kinds of strength interrelated? Is resilence a kind of strength? How does working on different kinds of strength in your asana practice translate into your day-to-day life? \nIn this workshop we will work on different ways for practicing for different kinds of strength and explore how to incorporate them into our practice over the long term. \nThis workshop is appropriate for students with at least two years consistent practice of Iyengar Yoga and experience practicing inversions. \nThe workshop will be held in person at Adeline Yoga Studio in Berkeley\, CA.  OR signup to stream the workshop live.  All participants will receive the recording. \nTuition:\nEarly Bird Special\, register early and save $10 \n$55 – Use code: EARLYSTRENGTH by February 15th\n$65 –  Per person – regular rate\nEveryone receives a recording valid for 30 days! \n\nRegister for IN-PERSON\nRegister for ONLINE\nAbout the Instructor\nMichael Lucey is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher at Level 3.  Michael stumbled into an Iyengar yoga class in England in 1982\, while he was a student at Oxford University. From his very first class he has been fascinated by the many ways yoga can transform your relation to your body\, mind\, and breath. He has been fortunate to study with many senior teachers from around the United States and Europe. He has also made 11 trips to Pune\, India to study directly with the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. His most recent trip was in December 2018. Michael is also a professor of Comparative Literature and French at the University of California\, Berkeley\, and served as President of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States from 2014-2017.

SUMMARY:The Power of Practice: 5 Day Pranayama Immersion
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Practice: \n5 Day Yoga Pranayama Immersion\nwith Heather Haxo Phillips \nMonday – Friday: Feb 17 – 21st\n7 – 8 am PST each day \nvia Zoom \nPranayama is a deeply transformative practice on all levels\, physical and emotional. You will graduate from the Immersion with more confidence\, ready to develop your  practice and receive the benefits! \n  \n \n  \nOver the week\, Heather will teach the art of reclining pranayama including use of props\, body awareness and somatic sensation. \nThe immersion is designed for people who are in the Sadhana Studies program.  Students who already have at least one year of study with a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and previous practice of pranayama are invited. \nBKS Iyengar’s Light on Pranayama will be our guide and source of inspiration. Pranayama creates quiet and calm in the practitioner\, helping to kindle the flame of intelligence and a relationship with the divine. \n“Just as a breeze clears the ashes and smoke\, so the divine spark in the sadhaka shines out when – by the practice of pranayama – his mind becomes free of impurities and fit for meditation” \n– BKS Iyengar\, Light on Pranayama \nIf you are brand new to pranayama\, this is not the program for you. \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nOne hour prior to the workshop you will receive a unique zoom log-in and specific instructions. \nYou can find out more about our Live Online Programming here \n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\n\nHeather Haxo Phillips (she/her) is Director of Adeline Yoga and a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Senior Intermediate level (Level 3).
